The Lynchburg lineup was punchless last night, only collecting four hits and three walks. Since being called up from Rome, 23-year-old Levi Hyams is 1-22 with four walks. He has struggled thus far to adjust to the high-A level after tearing up Rome in the first half of the season. Matt Chaffe threw 2.1 innings, striking out five. Billy Bullock made his seventh appearance since returning from suspension, throwing a scoreless inning with one strikeout. Hillcat pitchers as a whole recorded 14 strikeouts on the night along with nine ground balls.

*It was announced this morning that Robby Hefflinger has been promoted to Double-A Mississippi.

Kannapolis Intimidators 10, Rome Braves 3

  • Kyle Wren CF: 2-3, 2 2B (2), 2BB, R, E (1), OF Assist - (.440/.517/.720 Rk/A)
  • Ross Heffley 2B: 1-4, BB - (.213/.271/.303 A/A+)

  • Cole Nelson: 2IP, 6H, 4ER, BB, 3K (5IP, 10.80 ERA, 8K/4BB)
Rome was pounded Thursday, giving up 10 runs on 16 hits. Williams Perez actually had a great start, going five inning giving up on run with a 7-1 strikeout-to-walk. It was Bryam Garcia and Cole Nelson that gave up nine earned in three innings of work. After his promotion last night, Kyle Wren stole the show again, going 2-3 with two doubles and two walks, scoring one of two Rome's runs. He did make an error in the outfield, but made up for it with an outfield assist. Rome recorded no other extra base hits. Ross Heffley did reach base twice, however.

Danville Braves 2, Pulaski Mariners 8

  • Connor Lien: 2-3, HR (1), BB, R
  • Johan Carmargo SS: 0-3
  • Victor Caratini 3B: 0-4
  • Jacob Schrader DH: 0-4
  • Carlos Sanchez C: 1-3, 2B (2)
  • Mikey Reynolds SS: 0-3, R
  • Justin Black LF: 1-3
  • Michael FLores: 3IP, 4H, 5ER, 4BB, 5K
  • Ernesto Silva: 2IP, 5H, 2ER, 0BB, K
  • Rickie Tate: 2IP, H, 0ER, 0BB, 0K
Danville was beat quite handily again last night, 8-2. Michael Flores could only make it three innings, giving up five runs on four hits and four walks. It was a disappointing follow up to a five inning, two hit, one walk and nine strikeout performance last week. The 20-year-old lefty is coming off an impressive season last year in the DSL. With Kyle Wren's departure to Rome, personal favorite Connor Lien took over the CF duties. He picked up where Wren left off, going deep while also reaching on a single and walk. Aside from his performance, Danville only had two other players reach base.
