Atlanta went 0-12 with runners in scoring positon, leaving 12 runners on base offensively. It also committed two errors on one play in the eighth inning to open the game back up after making it a 2-1 game.
Making his first career start, New York's Zack Wheeler allowed four hits and walked five in six innings of work, but the Braves let him off the hook time after time. Wheeler struck out seven and recorded 14 whiffs, including 12 on his excellent fastball.
The Braves responded in the bottom of the frame against Mets reliever Brandon Lyon. Justin Upton hit a one out sacrifice fly to center field that was more than enough to bring in Jordan Schafer to make it a 2-1 game.
Anthony Varvaro took over in the top of the eighth inning and quickly got two quick outs. Marlon Byrd then lined a ball that bounced off of Varvaro's foot into center field for a double to bring up Josh Satin. For some reason, Varvaro decided to try and pick Byrd off second with two outs, but his throw was off target and went into center. B.J. Upton overran the ball, allowing Byrd to score from second on the play.
To end things tonight, here's the .gif of the Upton brothers colliding in the outfield.
