Gwinnett's 9th inning rally fell short Monday night losing to Buffalo, and former Braves farmhand, Todd Redmond. Gwinnett starter, 25-year-old Omar Poveda, was touched up for nine hits and four runs. He did however go 6+ innings for the 11th time in the past 12 starts, and has now racked up 90.2 innings, second in the International League. Constanza, Cunningham and Terdoslavich each has multi-hit games, though no Braves had an extra base hit. The switch-hitting Terdoslavich now has a .905 OPS at Triple-A.

* Tyler Pastornicky has been recalled from Gwinnett to join the Braves after Evan Gattis was placed on the 15-day DL. Cory Rasmus will also join the club as the 26th man for today's doubleheader.

Mississippi Braves 1, Tennessee Smokies 2

  • Phil Gosselin 2B: 1-4 - (.246/.293/.319)
  • Dan Brewer LF-RF: 1-3, BB - (.263/.349/.380)
  • Christian Marrero 1B: 0-4, (.243/.396/.407)
  • Edward Salcedo 3B: 0-3, BB - (.274/.338/.439)
  • Jamie Pedroza SS: 2-4, 2B (6) - (.286/.352/.354)
  • Aaron Northcraft: 5.2IP, 10H, ER, BB, 6K (66.1IP, 4.07 ERA, 60K/26BB)
  • Juan Jamie: 2.1IP, 2H, 0ER, 0BB, 5K (18.2IP, 1.45 ERA 32K/9BB)
Mississippi also got bested by a run last night, taking a 2-1 loss to Tennessee. Aaron Northcraft gave up 10 hits and a walk, yet only one earned run, while striking out six. Flame throwing Juan Jamie recorded five of his seven outs via the strikeout, only giving up two hits in the process. The 25-year-old has now struck out 32 in 18.2 innings. The Braves only scattered five hits, the only extra-base hit coming on a Jamie Pedroza double. The 5'8" switch-hitter now has a .325 on-base in 196 plate appearances. Speaking of on-base, Christian Marrero (though not reaching base Monday) is now tied for the Southern League lead on OBP thanks to his 54 walks in 2013. While not a touted prospect because of age and level, there is still a great fascination for players who have the ability walk (54) more than they strikeout (40).
