The big news from last night was Brandon Beachy being scratched from his start on Tuesday. Officially, Beachy has more tenderness in his elbow than usual, and his return has been pushed back. Whether you believe this or not, he hasn't had a setback to this point, and that would have been incredibly rare for such a major surgery. And while he did have a rough start in his last rehab start, command is always the last thing to come back after Tommy John surgery. With only one start being scratched (for now), I wouldn't worry too much at this point. If another start is scratched, more questions need to be asked.
Anyway, Happy Mike Minor Day!

Scouting Report: Chad Gaudin really pitches off his fastball, throwing his four-seamer and sinker nearly 70% of the time. His slider is next most-used pitch, and he'll throw it heavily to righties. The change-up is an okay pitch, but he'll use it primarily against left-handers as most right-handed pitchers will do. RHH can sit on fastball and slider, but LHH will have to look for a change-up as well. With two strikes, RHH need to focus on the slider while LHH will see a lot of fastballs.
Analysis: Gaudin isn't a particularly good pitcher. With a career ERA of exactly 4.50, he's getting pretty close to the replacement-level threshold. His strikeout (K%) and walk (BB%) rates are below-average for his career - 18% and 10%, respectively, against the league averages of 20% and 8%. This season, however, his K% has risen to 23% while his BB% has dropped to 8%, but considering that most of that has been done as a reliever, I don't expect it to continue. He has pitched well in his two starts, however - 12 IP, 9 H, 1 BB, and 12 K.
