Terdoslavich Doubles, Rasmus Dominates, And La Stella Is Promoted In Monday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

Cory Rasmus has been dominant for Gwinnett this season. - CB Wilkins

A roundup of how all the Braves affiliates fared last night.

Mississippi and Lynchburg were off, and rain ruined a Rome doubleheader, so Gwinnett was the only team in action, but solid outings from Omar Poveda and Cory Rasmus, coupled with another double from Joey Terdoslavich couldn't prevent them from losing their ninth game in a row.

Gwinnett Braves 1, Pawtucket Red Sox 5

  • Joey Terdoslavich RF 1-4, 2B, OF Assist, .336 AVG
  • Paul Janish SS 0-3, E (2), .185 AVG
  • Jose Yepez DH 2-3, 2B, .186 AVG
  • Omar Poveda 6 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 1 BB, 5 K, 2.33 ERA
  • Cory Rasmus 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K, 0.60 ERA

Omar Poveda took the loss despite making a quality start, and 5 of his 6 starts have been quality starts. In his last 4 games, he has a 1.95 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP in 27.2 innings. In his last 10 appearances, Cory Rasmus has struck out 9 over 9 innings, allowing 4 hits and 4 walks while giving up just 1 unearned run. After being selected 38th overall in the 2006 draft, his career was plagued by injuries, as he missed the entire 2007 season and most of the 2008 and 2011 seasons, but he converted to relief last season with Mississippi and put up more than solid numbers, a 3.68 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, and 9.5 K/9 in 58.2 innings over 50 appearances, and has dominated in his AAA debut this year, with a 0.60 ERA, a 0.87 WHIP, 9.6 K/9, and 4 saves in 15 innings over 14 appearances. Joey Terdoslavich is leading the league in doubles with 14, and total bases with 73, and is tied for the league lead in hits with 42. Jose Yepez snapped a 0-13 skid in his last 4 games with a 2 hit day that included his second double of the year. Paul Janish started his rehab on April 15th, going 4-20 with 2 RBI before an abdominal injury forced him to sit out again. He began his second rehab stint a few days ago, and has gone 1-7 in 3 games so far.

G-Braves starter Daniel Rodriguez will take on former Red Sox closer Alfredo Aceves tomorrow.

Mississippi Braves - Off

The M-Braves begin a 5 game series in Montgomery on Tuesday, with Mike Lee scheduled to start the opener for the Braves against Jacob Thompson for the Biscuits. The M-Braves will have a new player on Tuesday, as Tommy La Stella was promoted from Lynchburg today. The second baseman missed most of April with a leg injury, but hit .550 with a 1.440 OPS, a homer and 4 RBI in 20 at bats with the Hillcats after returning to action.

Lynchburg Hillcats - Off

The Hillcats begin a 3 game series in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday, with Greg Ross scheduled to make his Lynchurg debut against Pelicans starter Alec Asher.

Rome Braves - Postponed, Rain

After having the second game of a doubleheader rained out on Sunday, the R-Braves had an entire doubleheader rained out today. They'll try again on Tuesday, with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 10:30 am. Patrick Scoggin is scheduled to start the first game for Rome.
