I know that Walden has been injured, but you would have to say that the Braves got the best end of the Walden-Hanson trade. Hanson may have more wins in 2013 if it was not for the struggling Angels offence but we all know that Tommy had a major problem with being consistent. With that being said, we need Walden to step up in a way he has never experienced. He has that 3.22 career ERA but the Braves are going to need lower than that if they are going to continue to contend in the East. I'm sure it gets old real quick for the players to have a lead in the 7th, and 8th innings, only to get beat. Walden has closed games before so I do believe that will give him a lead for that setup man in front of Kimbrel. Will Walden be able to take on both roles of 0'Flaherety and Venters? I think there is no chance, but he will have to be better that he has this season if Braves want to contend.
Wood is the same way. I think it is going to be extemely rough on a guy that's been playing AA ball to be a stopper in the Majors, but that is what they need Wood to do. I'm sure nobody in the Braves front office expected him to have to play this early but that's the nature of the beast.
All in all, they are not Venters or O'Flaherety but they will have to step up big time if Braves want to continue their winning ways. Honestly, take away Kimbrel's blown saves, and Gerrin's late inning blunders, and the Braves have the best record in baseball.
