Braves Burned By Ike Davis; Winning Streak Ends With 4-2 Loss To Mets

The struggling Ike Davis delivered the game-winning hit for the Mets in the eighth. Atlanta's winning streak ends at eight games.

Atlanta's eight-game winning streak has come to an end with help the much-maligned Ike Davis. The Mets first baseman singled in the go-ahead runs in the eighth inning to beat the Braves 4-2.

Julio Teheran wasn't as sharp as he was in recent starts, but he battled, holding the Mets to a single run in 6.2 innings: Lucas Duda's home run in the fourth. He walked three hitters, which was more than he had walked in his previous five starts combined.

Teheran's counterpart, Shaun Marcum, entered the game winless, but set a career high with 12 strikeouts in seven innings. At one point, he retired 12 straight Braves hitters. He had allowed just two hits through the first six innings - both to Andrelton Simmons - but after Justin Upton reached on an infield single in the seventh, Dan Uggla belted a long home run to left to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead.

Cory Gearrin entered the game in the eighth after Luis Avilan needed one pitch to finish the seventh, and was greeted rather rudely. Pinch-hitter Justin Turner singled, Duda doubled, and John Buck singled in the tying run. Gearrin then plunked Mike Baxter to load the bases, but with the many troubles of Ike Davis this year, Gearrin had a chance to get out of the inning. Instead, Davis singled to right, driving in two runs to put the finishing touch on the scoring.
