Justin Upton Named National League Player of the Month for April

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

Atlanta Braves outfielder Justin Upton has been named the National League Player of the Month for April. Upton hit .298/.402/.734... yep, a .734 slugging percentage, punctuated by 12 home runs -- both tops in the Majors for April. His 12 home runs in April were the most for an Atlanta Braves player, breaking the previous record (10) held by Ryan Klesko and Andres Galarraga (twice).

Upton also lead the NL in extra base hits, and was tied for the Major League lead. He became the first player in Major League history to hit five home runs in his first five games with a team. Also the first to hit six home runs in seven games. He was also the fastest Braves player to reach 10 home runs.

There's no doubt that Justin Upton was the team's MVP in April... unfortunately, his brother B.J. Upton was probably the team's LVP for April (thought he's got some competition). Maybe May will see the Braves get their second Upton (BJ) hitting like the other Upton (Justin).

Congrats to Justin Upton on this honor. It certainly seems like it won't be the last one he receives this year.
