One To Forget: Braves At Giants Series Recap

It was just one of those weekends. - USA TODAY Sports

A recap of Atlanta's forgettable series loss against the Giants this weekend.

What started off with a bang ended with a whimper as Atlanta took the first game against San Francisco but then proceeded to drop the last three in excruciating fashion. Here are some quick summary facts from the Braves' series.

  • Atlanta really only had one good hitting performance this weekend, and that was from the recently-returned Brian McCann. Mac started 3 games and went 4-10 with 2 home runs, 5 RBI, and 2 walks.
  • Justin Upton didn't go deep, but he continued his good on-base work, going 3-14 with 3 walks, a double, and a triple.
  • Brother B.J. still hasn't fully gotten his bat going, but he reached base 5 times in the series, a definite move in the right direction. The elder Upton was 2-13 with 3 walks.
  • Juan Francisco drew 3 of the 4 starts at third this weekend, going 2-9 with a walk.
  • After their win on Thursday, Atlanta was manhandled by San Francisco's starting trio of Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner, and Tim Lincecum. The three combined to throw 22 innings, and allow 3 runs on 9 hits while striking out 25. Make no mistake, though, Cain and Bumgarner are arguably 2 of the best 10 pitchers in baseball right now, and Lincecum is a two-time former Cy Young.
  • Atlanta's pitching wasn't much better than their bats either, as the Braves were outscored 23-4 in the last 3 games of the series.
Atlanta heads to Arizona for a three game series now, hoping to shake out of their offensive funk against a good Diamondbacks team.
