Atlanta Doesn't Show Up, Loses To Giants 5-1

Sad Medlen - Jason O. Watson

The Braves got lackluster pitching from Kris Medlen and an even more lackluster performance from their bats as the Giants won 5-1.

The sky is falling! Well...not really, but it's certainly been a trying weekend for Braves' fans as the team dropped their third game in a row in pathetic fashion. Tim Lincecum, who's been a disaster for the better part of two years, looked like his former Cy-Young-winning self, mowing down the Braves over 7 innings.

San Francisco jumped on Medlen early, with solo homers from Brandon Belt in the second and Pablo Sandoval in the third. Even Marco Scutaro, of all people, got in on the home run parade, hitting a solo shot in the fifth. When all was said and done, Medlen allowed 5 runs, though only 3 were earned.

To say he pitched poorly would be an understatement. His control was wretched all day, as he walked a whopping five men and was routinely falling behind in counts. He was exceedingly hittable too, allowing 8 in 5 innings. Honestly, he was probably lucky to escape with only 5 runs on the board, as he stranded multiple runners several times.

Atlanta's offense was blanked through 7 by Lincecum who allowed only 2 hits to the Braves. If it hadn't been for Evan Gattis' pinch-hit RBI double in the ninth, the Braves would have been shut out.

And what started as a promising series ended with a thud. Atlanta will do their best to put this one behind them, and play better in Arizona.
