Game photos: Lee vs. Bootcheck

MOOSIC, PA (May 10, 2013) - The Gwinnett Braves came to the new and improved PNC Field, home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Empire State Yankees Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders for the first time on Friday night. I was there with my camera, and thought I'd share some photos.

Chris Bootcheck, the RailRiders starter. He had an ERA of 0.60 coming into this game - best in the IL.

Tyler Pastornicky singles in the first.

He then steals second. The throw to second baseman Corban Joseph is high.

Alden Carrithers was batting. He would get on via a bunt single, that was really a mistake by...someone. Everyone ran to get the bunt, and no one was covering first base.

Joey Terdoslavich then hit a three-run homer onto the berm in right. Right fielder Zoilo Almonte gives it a courtesy chase. (The new PNC Field has a giant flatscreen TV for an outfield wall. It's really...bright.)

Yeah, I missed the shot of Terdoslavich actually hitting it. Was photographing the pitcher instead, since lefty batters had their backs to me where I was sitting. I should have known.

Rounding third and heading for home.

With one swing of the bat, Terdoslavich more than doubled Bootcheck's earned runs. He'd had only 2 in the season (in five games) until then.

Michael Lee, the Gwinnett starter.

CFer Melky Mesa slides in hard to break up the double play in the second. He was successful; shortstop Paul Janish didn't even try to make a throw.

Ernesto Mejia doubles in the fourth inning...

...then gets picked off and caught stealing. Corban Joseph runs him down.

Yeah, it was that kind of a game.

Paul Janish makes a diving stop on a Melky Mesa grounder...

Throws to first from the ground...

Close play, but he doesn't get the call.

Luis Ayala, on a rehab assignment, pitched the sixth and seventh innings.

Pitched two innings, gave up two hits, struck out two. No walks or runs.

Andrew Russell pitched the eighth. An Australian sidewinder.

The game was tied when he came in, but not when he left. Curtis Granderson, on rehab assignment, broke the tie with a two-run homer.

Brandon Boggs can't reach it.

Ernesto Mejia at bat in the rain in the ninth.

He would single, moving Joey Terdoslavich, on via a walk, to second. But the rally fell short, and the RailRiders won it, 5-3.

The opera ain't over till the fat lady sings. At PNC Field, she comes out, sings a song, then takes baseballs out of her bra and throws them to the fans. Joey Terdoslavich looks like he doesn't know quite what to make of it.
