Braves Flattened By Giants Again, Lose 10-1

Just one of those days. - USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta ran into San Francisco's hottest pitcher today, and he was as good as advertised, shutting down Atlanta's offense for the second night in a row.

Well, much like yesterday, that one was tough to watch. Atlanta's offense - which looked so good on Thursday - was shut down for the second day in a row as Madison Bumgarner held Atlanta to 1 run in 7 innings.

San Francisco got on the board early, when Pablo Sandoval socked a Paul Maholm fastball to left-center field for a two-out solo home run. It was Sandoval's fifth home run of the year (which is, coincidentally, probably about how many fast-food places he's put out of business this season.)

San Francisco tacked on another in the fourth inning, when Brandon Crawford hit an RBI double, scoring Buster Posey.

Atlanta had a chance to get back into the game in the fifth inning. After Evan Gattis doubled and B.J. Upton walked, Gerald Laird came up with one out. The runners advanced on a wild pitch, but Laird struck out on a wicked slider. That brought up Paul Maholm, who somehow managed to loft a 2-2 pitch into shallow left field to score a run. Andrelton Simmons - who looked atrocious at the plate all day today - popped up on the very next pitch to end the threat.

The Giants put the icing on this one in the bottom half of the fifth, however, as they scored four times. A combination of shoddy defense, cheap hits, and bad pitching doomed the Braves, with the coup de grace coming by way of a Gregor Blanco bases-loaded double.

San Francisco kept going, as they scored four more in the eight. Anthony Varvaro gave up a two run double to backup catcher Guillermo Quiroz (who!?) and Jordan Walden allowed a two-run single to Brandon Belt. It was just that kind of day.

Atlanta will look to split the series tomorrow. Kris Medlen will take the mound for Atlanta, opposing Tim Lincecum. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 PM Eastern.
