Parraz and Hefflinger Each Homer Twice In Sunday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

Jordan Parraz and Robby Hefflinger each had 2 homer days, Gus Schlosser had a solid AA debut, Elmer Reyes kept on hitting, and Zach Jadofsky continued to dominate out of the bullpen.

Gwinnett finished off the sweep, led by a 2 homer day from Jordan Parraz. A broken hand limited Parraz to 118 at bats with Gwinnett in 2012, and he only his 2 home runs the whole season. After going 0-9 with 5 strikeouts in his first 3 games, Todd Cunningham picked up his first 2 AAA hits and RBI today. Tim Corcoran, who began his career as a 44th round selection of the Mets in 1996, worked around 4 walks to toss 5 shutout innings and pick up a win in his first game in the Braves organization. Cory Rasmus struck out 2 over 2 scoreless innings, earning his first AAA save.

The G-Braves will head to Durham on Monday to begin a 3 game series. Omar Poveda will make his Braves debut, facing off against top prospect Jake Odorizzi for the Bulls.

Gus Schlosser was solid in his AA debut, allowing 1 run over 5 innings, walking 3 and striking out 2. He also drove in the M-Braves lone run with a bases loaded walk in the 2nd inning. Pat Egan struck out 3 in his debut in the Braves organization. The 28 year old righty, who was signed as a free agent today, spent 6 seasons in the Orioles organization after they drafted him in the 36th round in 2006, pitching some in AAA each of the last 3 seasons. Christian Bethancourt had 2 hits, including a double. The 21 year old only had 8 extra base hits in 268 at bats with Mississippi last season, and he already has 2 extra base hits in 13 at bats this year.

Gary Moran will start the series finale Monday night against Bay Bears righty Derek Eitel.

Robby Hefflinger clubbed out a pair of homers today, giving him 3 homers in his last 2 games. He hit 4 homers in 167 at bats with Lynchburg between 2011 and 2012. William Beckwith also homered, his first of the year, and played third base for just the second time in his career. Elmer Reyes followed up yesterday's 4 hit performance with a 2 hit day today, both doubles. Kyle Kubitza had his second straight 2 hit day, adding a pair of walks to reach base 4 times on the day. Mark Pope struggled in his first game in the Braves organization, allowing 3 earned runs while giving up 6 hit and 4 walks, being pulled before making it through 4 innings. Matt Chaffee excelled in relief, picking up the win by stranding a pair of inherited runners and striking out 3 over 2.1 shutout innings.

The Hillcats are off on Monday, heading back to Lynchburg for their home opener against Myrtle Beach on Tuesday. Ryan Weber will start for the Cats against Alec Asher for the Pelicans.

Patrick Scoggin didn't allow an earned run in 14.1 innings in 2012 after signing with the Braves as an undrafted free agent, but he allowed 3 earned in 3 innings in his first professional start today. Zach Jadofsky was stellar in relief, tossing 3.2 shutout innings. The R-Braves only had 3 hits on the day, 2 of them coming off the bat of Eric Garcia, who joined the team yesterday from Extended Spring Training after Levi Hyams was placed on the DL.

Rome begins a 3 game series against Greensboro on Monday, with Frank Lafreniere scheduled to start for the Braves against Austin Brice for the Grasshoppers.
