The Magical Twists in the Evan Gattis Story Continue

USA TODAY Sports

As if written for an unbelievable Hollywood story, the Evan Gattis saga continues to amaze.

The Evan Gattis story really began when he didn't show up to the Texas A&M baseball team in 2006, full scholarship and all. He was worried that his substance abuse would get him kicked off the team. That began a long road back to baseball. From last night's game:

The young man who caught Gattis' home run ball was wearing a Texas A&M hat. The irony was certainly not ignored by Gattis, who committed to play at A&M before he opted to avoid the possibility of testing positive for marijuana, a substance he mixed with alcohol in attempt to overcome depression.

This really is the stuff that shouldn't be believed, even in a movie. Nevertheless, this story seems destined to one day become a movie. Hopefully it's a decade or so down the road after Gattis has led the Atlanta Braves to many a World Series titles.

People love underdog stories and stories about redemption. People seem to love underdog stories in sports even more. The Evan Gattis story is a sports underdog story about redemption. This is only the beginning...
