Jason Heyward Undergoes Successful Appendectomy On Monday Night

Joy R. Absalon-USA TODAY Sports

J-Hey is likely to miss at least a week as he recovers from surgery.

Jason Heyward underwent a successful appendectomy surgery on Monday night in Denver, according to the Braves official Twitter page. Nothing is official yet, but it seems likely Heyward will be headed to the 15-day disabled list, especially with the club set to play three games in the next 48 hours.

The good news is that J-Hey should make a full recovery. The bad news is he will likely be out at least a week. Matt Holliday was able to come back in nine days, but most others typically need two-to-three weeks before returning to the field.

Through 17 games, Heyward was batting just .121/.261/.259, although he's been a victim of some pretty bad luck.

It's unclear how the Braves will handle the situation. The smart thing to do would be to move Justin Upton to right field and then primarily use Reed Johnson and Jordan Schafer in left. Evan Gattis could also see some time in left, although that would mean Gerald Laird would get more time behind the plate. I'm not sure anyone wants that.

Get better soon, Jason.
