There are too many people that are bummed by the loss of Prado more than they are of the excitement of gaining Justin Upton. If you are one of those people, I hope that this helps ease your pain. Thanks to this site, there have been plenty of articles and even videos that show how exciting having Justin Upton can be. But here's some of the reasons why I'm more than excited:
1) The brothers playing together....Who can be a better motivator and inspiration than playing with family? I can see how playing with your brother can make some players nervous, but I don't see that. BJ and Justin have a chance to do something historic. I'm counting on this move making both players better, which will pay off for the Braves.
2) Justin's upside....Former #1 pick. National high school player of the year. In the majors at 19. .285/30/90 guy in this lineup is very doable, while Prado is a .300/15/70 kind of guy. Upton is faster and is more likely to be a better LF than Prado would be.We expected Prado at 3rd so....
3) Chris Johnson vs. LF platoon....Of course, there was a chance to play the majority of games with Francisco at 3B and Prado in LF or Reed Johnson in LF with Prado at 3B. But does that compare with Upton in LF daily and Johnson/Francisco to platoon 3B until someone gets hot?
4) Another SUPERSTAR: The signing of Upton is so big, that Dan Uggla is almost an afterthought in production. Hard to imagine a guy that is getting paid 13 mil+ per season for his bat isn't the 1st, 2nd or 3rd big option in the lineup. How many of you are projecting that Uggla will bat in the 3-4-5 spots? Uggla with little pressure and expectation might do him some good. At least we can all hope so.
What a sick lineup. I wish Prado the best in Arizona. I think they will count on him way more than we did, so we'll see if he's capable of being a star for a franchise. Justin Upton fits the description, let's hope he is just that.
