Poor relief pitching doomed the Hillcats tonight, as lefty Matt Chaffee allowed an inherited runner to score on a double, which cut Lynchburg's lead to 3-2, and then he allowed a 2 run homer to give the Dash a 4-2 lead. John Cornely, who hadn't allowed a run in 6 appearances with the Hillcats between the regular season an the playoffs, allowed a solo homer in the 8th to give the Dash a 2 run cushion, which allowed them to win despite allowing a 9th inning Hillcat run when Andrelton Simmons doubled in Dan Brewer. The Hillcats scored their other 3 runs in the 4th when Dan Brewer singled in Tommy La Stella and Chris Garcia scored on an error by the center fielder on the same play, then Myke Jones laid down a suicide squeeze to score Brewer. Andrelton Simmons will rejoin Atlanta on Monday after finishing his rehab assignment by rapping out a pair of doubles tonight. He played in 6 Minor League games overall, including Mississippi's final game of the season, Rome's first playoff game, and Lynchburg's last 4 playoff games, going 7-25 with 2 doubles, 2 homers, 3 BI, a walk, a steal, and an error in those games.
Monday is an off day, before the series resumes with Game 3 on Tuesday, Gus Schlosser, who pitched 8 shutout innings in Lynchburg's win over Wilmington in the first game of the Division Series, will face Winston-Salem's Erik Johnson.
