Braves Make Moves As Rosters Expand

The awesome Aussi returns to Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves made several moves before the August 31st waiver trade deadline, highlighted by a trade to acquire yet another bench player. Atlanta acquired utility player Jeff Baker from the Detroit Tigers for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Baker is hitting just .254 this year, and was designated for assignment earlier in the day by Detroit, but he's a veteran guy who can play just about anywhere on the field, and gives the Braves another option off the bench, especially a right-handed option.

With rosters expanding today, the Braves are expected to call up first baseman Lyle Overbay, catcher J.C. Boscan, outfielder Jose Constanza, and our old Aussie friend, reliever Peter Moylan. The Braves will call up additional players from their triple-A club after the Gwinnett season ends this Sunday. Moylan was excited for his callup, and sent this tweet out yesterday:

Another player who was expected to be called up, shortstop Jack Wilson, was released yesterday. He became expendable with the acquisition of Paul Janish, and the expected return of Andrelton Simmons. Speaking of Simmons, he was cleared to resume baseball activities, and was taking infield grounders before yesterday's game.
