We are already hearing that Hanson uttered profanities when he was told by Fredi that he was headed to the minors for a rehab start... so what kind of attitude can we expect from him when he finds out that he is coming back to a 6-man rotation and that he essentially has to "try out" for a starting spot? We know his agent (Scott Boras) won't do anything to put out the fire, since he wants Hanson to accumulate the best stats possible before contract discussions start after the season. I understand that Hanson is a battler and "wants" to pitch, but is he so out-of-touch that he can't see what our 5 starters have done in the past 30 days?
Hudson (4-0) in his 6 starts
Sheets (4-1, 1.41 ERA) in his 5 starts
Medlen (2-0, 1.27 ERA) in his 3 starts
Minor (1.99 ERA, 0.88 WHIP) in his 5 starts
Maholm (1.69 ERA, 3-hit shutout) in his 2 starts
Does Hanson really think that somehow he deserves to take the place of one of these guys?? The same Hanson who has an ERA of 7.45 over the last 30 days?
Will he accept the reality of the situation and do what is best for the TEAM -- such as pitch in a 6-man rotation and allow everyone else to get extra rest -- or will his agent be in his ear telling him that he is losing money? Hopefully Hanson proves to be a team player and not a disgruntled cancer in the clubhouse.
