Brian McCann's Grand Slam Leads Braves To 5-0 Win Over Philadelphia

Hudson was impressive in shutting out Philadelphia for seven innings.

For seven innings, Atlanta and Philadelphia were locked in a 0-0 pitchers duel thanks to a pair of great outing's from Tim Hudson and Kyle Kendrick.

Then, Antonio Bastardo happened.

Bastardo walked three while giving up two hits, including Brian McCann's grand slam as the Braves broke things open in the eighth inning.

Hudson's outing was quite impressive, especially considering that he almost came out of the game twice due to his ankle acting up from bone spurs. However, he remained in the game and gutted out seven innings while giving up just four hits while walking one and striking out none.

Kendrick's line was similar, allowing just four hits while walking one, but he struck out five batters. It was a much needed good outing for the struggling Kendrick.

Both teams threatened in the seventh inning. Back-to-back singles from Chipper and Freddie Freeman put runners on first and second with no outs, but a Brian McCann strikeout, Dan Uggla pop out, and Andrelton Simmons grounder ended the threat.

In the bottom of the inning, a Ryan Howard single and Hunter Pence walked put runners on first and second with one out. Hudson managed to get Juan Pierre to pop out, and Mike Fontenot to ground out to escape the jam.

In the eighth, pinch-hitter Matt Diaz started things with a single, and moved to second on a walk from Bastardo. Pop-outs from Martin Prado and Jason Heyward brought up Chipper with two outs. Chipper worked a walk, and Freddie Freeman worked a walk after going to a full count to bring in Diaz make it 1-0.

McCann crushed the second pitch he saw from Bastardo, a hanging slider, to dead center for a grand slam. It was McCann's second grand slam of the season, and the ninth of his career.

Eric O' Flaherty worked a scoreless eighth, and Chad Durbin did the same in the ninth to seal the win for Atlanta.
