The Atlanta Braves acquisition of starting pitcher Paul Maholm came just in time. Today the team placed starting pitcher Tommy Hanson on the disabled list with a lower back strain, and recalled reliever Cory Gearrin from triple-A.

The team had already announced that Hanson's next start would likely be pushed back, and Kris Medlen would make a second start this Sunday. Now it seems that Medlen will stay in the rotation while Hanson recovers from his "sore back."

New Braves pitcher Maholm will start this Saturday in place of Hanson.
