Hefflinger, Query, Drury, And Skinner Bust Out The Long Ball To Highlight Wednesday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

PCL All-Stars 3, INT All-Stars 0

The AAA All-Star game was this evening, and Ernesto Mejia was the only Gwinnett Brave to make an appearance. Mejia started at first and went 0-3. The International League only managed 5 hits all night, however.

Gwinnett plays the Louisville Bats tomorrow, with no probables announced as of yet.

Mississippi Braves 5, Jackson Generals 16
Zeke Spruill had a real rough evening on the mound for Mississippi, getting hammered for 8 earned runs across 3.1 innings. He was probably a bit unlucky, as 9 of his 11 baserunners came around to score, but he was obviously too hittable. He did strike out a respectable 5 men while only allowing 1 walk, so that's a bit of a silver lining. Ryan Buchter was the only M-Brave who didn't allow a run, striking out 3 men over 1.1 scoreless innings. Buchter has been downright filthy this year, with 42 strikeouts in 33.2 innings, while allowing only 18 hits and 16 walks. On the offensive side, Joey Terdoslavich had another 2 hit game, as did Todd Cunningham. Joe Leonard notched two hits as well, including an RBI double.

David Hale will take the mound against the Generals tomorrow.
Lynchburg Hillcats 0, Salem Red Sox 4
Lynchburg managed only 2 baserunners tonight against the Salem Red Sox, mustering only two singles: one from Edward Salcedo and one from Adam Milligan. Dimasther Delgado pitched well, allowing only 2 earned runs on 6 hits over 6 innings. He struck out 7 men while walking only 2., his highest strikeout total in his last 10 games. Not too much else to say about this game tonight.

Lynchburg takes on Salem again tomorrow night, probables TBA.

  • Kyle Kubitza, 3B: 2-4, 2B, 2 R, BB, SB(13), .257
  • Ross Heffley, 2B: 2-5, 2B, R, .288
  • David Filak, SP: 0.0 IP, 2 H, 6 R, 4 BB, 0 K, 5.71 ERA
  • John Cornely, RP: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 4.33 ERA
West Virginia Power 2, Rome Braves 8 - Game 2
  • Robby Hefflinger, LF: 1-2, BB, R, .271
  • Ryan Query, C: 2-3, 2 HR(1,2), 4 RBI, .198
  • Brandon Drury, 3B: 1-2, HR(4), 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, .213
  • Will Skinner, CF: 1-3, HR(7), .259
  • Greg Ross, SP: 4.1 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 5.43 ERA
Rome broke out the long ball during today's doubleheader with the West Viginia Power, hammering out 5 homers over the two games, though they only managed to win one of them. Game one saw David Filak have a disastrous start, as he allowed 6 runs on 2 hits and 4 walks while not even managing to record an out. Greg Ross wasn't overly sharp in the nightcap either, but managed to limit the Power to 2 runs over 4.1 innings of work. Robby Hefflinger had a monster day, going 5-7 with a double, homer, and walk over the two games. Ryan Query added his first two homers of the year in the nightcap, which saw Brandon Drury and Will Skinner go deep as well. Drury continues to turn the page on his horrific start, having posted a slash line of .344/.462/.594 over his last 10 games. The most encouraging sign from that may be his 6 walks, as he had only managed 10 in the 72 games prior.

Alex Wood starts against the Power tomorrow for Rome.
