Sabathia Silences Braves Bats As Atlanta Falls To New York 6-2

The Braves had no answer for this big boy tonight.

Atlanta jumped out to an early lead tonight behind Michael Bourn's hitting, but unfortunately the Braves' pitching couldn't hold the Yankees, as Mike Minor would allow 4 runs late while the bullpen gave up two more in a 6-2 loss.

Things started off promising, as Micheal Bourn opened the game with a leadoff triple on the 2nd pitch of the game. Martin Prado would bring him in two pitches later on an RBI groundout. The Braves would tack on another run in the fifth on three singles by Jason Heyward, Andrelton Simmons, and Bourn to make it 2-0. Unfortunately, that was all the scoring the Braves would do today.

Mike Minor was dominant early, facing the minimum through 4 innings. His only blemish was a 2nd inning walk that was erased on a double play. Things started to unravel in the 5th. After a leadoff single to Alex Rodriguez, followed by a walk to Robinson Cano, Andruw Jones would strike out before Russell Martin hit an RBI ground-rule double into the left field seats. After walking Jayson Nix, and getting Christ Stewart to foul out, Minor had Derek Jeter at the plate with 2 outs and the bases loaded. Minor ran the count full before Jeter hit a bouncing ball up the middle. Dan Uggla, showing off his statuesque range, didn't even have a play on the ball, and two Yankees scored, making it 3-2.

Minor oddly came back out for the 6th inning, and promptly allowed a solo homer to Mark Teixeira. Minor retired the next two batters before being pulled, and finished with a line of 5.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 7 K. The 4 runs belie how well he pitched.

The Yankees would score twice more off Atlanta's pen. Derek Jeter had an RBI single off Kris Medlen, and Robinson Cano hit a solo home run off of Anthony Varvaro in the 8th inning.

CC Sabathia pitched outstandingly for New York, throwing a complete game with 7 hits, the two aforementioned runs, 1 walk, and a whopping 10 strikeouts.

Braves MVP - Michael Bourn: 2-4, 3B, R, RBI
