Gilmartin Throws Complete Game While Rome Wins In 14 Behind Hefflinger And Skinner In Thursday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

Gwinnett got clobbered by the IronPigs, Mississippi split a doubleheader behind Gilmartin's complete game, Lynchburg went quietly against Salem, and Rome won in 14 innings.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs 14, Gwinnett Braves 4

  • Felix Pie, CF: 2-4, 2 2B, 2 R, .255
  • Christian Marrero, LF: 2-4, 2 RBI, .259
  • Josh Wilson, SS: 2-4, 2 2B, R, .242
  • Todd Redmond, SP: 7 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 2.47 ERA
Todd Redmond had an unusually rocky start, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and a walk over 7 innings pitched. It was only the 2nd start all year in which Redmond has allowed 4 runs - and he's never allowed more than 4 earned runs in a start this year. It was also only Redmond's 4th start all year where he's struck out less than 5 men. Redmond left after the 7th, and the Gwinnett bullpen imploded, allowing 10 runs over the final two innings of the ballgame to turn a close game into a complete blowout. Felix Pie led off for Gwinnett and hit two doubles and scored twice, while Josh Wilson also hit a pair of doubles and scored once.. Christian Marrero had a 2 RBI day with two singles.

Jair Jurrjens takes the hill tomorrow for Gwinnett, looking to build on his strong last outing.
Montgomery Biscuits 7, Mississippi Braves 3 - Game 1
The Biscuits cooked the Braves in game one of the doubleheader, scoring 7 runs in the 7 inning game, including 4 off M-Braves' starter Luis Avilan. Avilan lasted 4 innings, allowing 6 hits and 4 runs. On the bright side, he did strike out 6 while issuing only one free pass. In his last 16.2 innings, Avilan has only issued 4 walks against 21 punchouts. Joe Leonard had a great day at the plate, recording a single, walk, and sac fly across 3 PAs. Phil Gosselin was the only M-Brave to record a multi-hit game, going 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.

Montgomery Biscuits 2, Mississippi Braves 3 - Game 2
  • Todd Cunningham, RF: 2-3, 2B, R, .311
  • Matthew Kennelly, C: 1-3, 2B, R, 2 RBI, .247
  • Phil Gosselin, 2B: 1-3, 2B, .262
  • Sean Gilmartin, SP: 7 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 7 K, 3.39 ERA
Mississippi took game two of the twin bill behind a strong complete game effort (only 7 innings) from Sean Gilmartin. Gilmartin didn't have his best stuff but battled well, allowing only 2 runs and 9 baserunners across the 7 inning affair. He also struck out a batter an inning and now has 52 strikeouts across 63 innings on the year. Todd Cunningham kept up his good work with the bat, going 2-3 with a double and a run. Mississippi did all the damage in the second inning, when catcher Matt Kennelly doubled home Cunningham and Joe Leonard. Recently-demoted shortstop Greg Paiml drove in Kennelly with a single for what would prove to be the winning run.

David Hale will start the series finale for the M-Braves tomorrow.

Salem Red Sox 6, Lynchburg Hillcats 2
  • Myke Jones, CF: 1-3, R, .258
  • Adam Milligan, DH: 1-4, HR(2), .280
  • Tommy La Stella, 2B: 1-3, BB, 2 K, .290
  • Gus Schlosser, SP: 5 IP, 5 H, 6 R (4 ER), 3 BB, 5 K, 4.04 ERA
  • Juan Jamie, RP: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 4.05 ERA
Gus Schlosser started against Salem last night and wasn't very sharp, surrendering 4 ER over 5 innings while allowing 5 hits and 3 walks. He did strike out 5, however. Adam Milligan hit his 2nd Lynchburg home run of the year, and since his demotion, Milligan has been hitting .280/.321/.460. Myke Jones got another hit out of the leadoff spot and has slowly been bringing his average up since his demotion as well. Tommy La Stella reached base twice but, more notably, struck out twice. With those two, La Stella has now struck out a mere 14 times in 162 at bats. For comparison, he's walked 22 times.

Dimasther Delgado will take the bump for Lynchburg tomorrow.

Rome Braves 10, Lexington Legends 9 - 14 Innings
  • Will Skinner, RF: 4-6, 3 R, 2B, RBI, BB, SB(4), .281
  • Robby Hefflinger, LF: 2-6, 2B, HR(1), 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, .308
  • William Beckwith, 1B: 2-7, 2 R, RBI, .307
  • Abner Abreu, CF: 1-7, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 SB(2,3), .241
  • Ryan Weber, SP: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R (5 ER), 2 BB, 3 K, 6.75 ERA
  • Jarrett Miller, RP: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 4.91 ERA
Rome won a wild one over Lexington tonight, prevailing in 14 innings. Ryan Weber started for the Braves and was quite hittable, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits and 2 walks over 5.1 innings. Rome's defense did him no favors though, allowing in an unearned run. On the evening, Rome's defense was horrific, combining for 7 errors over the 14 inning affair. In the top of the 14th however, with the score tied at 9 all, Will Skinner lead off with a single and advanced to 2nd on a passed ball. Brandon Drury sacrificed him to third, but Lexington's pitcher airmailed the throw, allowing Skinner to score the winning run. Jarrett Miller slammed the door in the bottom of the 14th with a pair of strikeouts. Miller was impressive in relief, going 4 strong innings with 6 punchouts. Will Skinner was the story of the day for the offense, going 4-6 with a double, a steal, an RBI, and 3 runs scored. He even stole his 4th base of the year. Robby Hefflinger was 2-6 with a double and his first homer of the year.

Navery Moore will go against the Legends tomorrow evening.
