La Stella and Gartrell Go Yard, Schlosser Pitches A Gem, And Redmond Shuts Down The Red Wings In Sunday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

Todd Redmond pitched well for Gwinnett while Stefan Gartrell went deep again, Gilmartin was bitten by the gopherball in Mississippi, Schlosser tossed a beauty for Lynchburg while La Stella did it all, and

Gwinnett Braves 2, Rochester Red Wings 1

  • Stefan Gartrell, 1-4, HR(10), .257
  • Ernesto Mejia, DH: 2-4, 2B, R, .306
  • Drew Sutton, 3B: 1-2, 2B, RBI, .270
  • Joey Terdoslavich, 3B: 1-2, .197
  • Todd Redmond, SP: 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 2.63 ERA
  • Cory Gearrin, RP: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 1.09 ERA
All three runs in this game came in the first inning, and Todd Redmond and Cory Gearrin made the lead stand up. Redmond went 7 strong innings, allowing only six baserunners while punching out 3 men. He lowered his already stellar ERA all the way down to 2.63. Gearrin was his usual dominant self, throwing 2 hitless innings with a walk and 4 strikeouts to register his 3rd save of the year. For the offense, Stefan Gartrell (who else?) opened the scoring with his 10th homer of the year. Mejia and Sutton followed with back to back two out doubles to plate the G-Braves' other run. In his last 6 games, Gartrell has 4 homers and 4 doubles, good for 7 RBI. He's just unconscious right now. Joey Terdoslavich made a late game substitution for Sutton as the Braves finalized a trade to send Sutton to the Pirates for cash considerations. Terdoslavich went 1-2. The struggling slugger has posted a respectable 5-16 line in his last 5 games and tweeted today that he feels like he's beginning to figure things out. Lets hope so.

Jair Jurrjens looks to rebound from his miserable last start as he faces Rochester tomorrow.

Tennessee Smokies 6, Mississippi Braves 3

It was a rough afternoon for Sean Gilmartin, as he gave up 5 runs over 5 innings of work. He did strike out 5, but Gilmartin was bitten by the long ball, allowing a solo shot and a two run shot to the Smokies. Mississippi couldn't get much going offensively either. Phil Gosselin went 2-4 with an RBI and steal, while Christian Bethancourt chipped in two singles as well. Evan Gattis had the day off today.

David Hale takes the bump tomorrow as the M-Braves look to take a game from the Smokies

Lynchburg Hillcats 5, Winston-Salem Dash 2
  • Nick Ahmed, SS: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI, BB, .258
  • Tommy La Stella, 2B: 2-5, HR(4), 2 RBI, SB(8), .305
  • Edward Salcedo, 3B: 1-2, R, 2 BB, .260
  • Gus Schlosser, SP: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 10 K, 3.95 ERA
Lynchburg finally broke through against the Dash behind the right arm of Gus Schlosser. Schlosser was absolutely dealing this afternoon, tossing a 4 hit gem over 7 innings with 10 strikeouts. Schlosser has been virtually untouchable over his last two starts, allowing only 7 hits in 14 innings. That'll get you on the hot sheet. Tommy La Stella did it all today, banging out his 4th homer of the year to go along with his 8th steal. Nick Ahmed went 2-4 with a double, run, RBI, and walk as well. Edward Salcedo went 1-2 with a pair of walks and over the last 10 games he's sporting a 4/4 K/BB ratio. Not bad at all for a slugger.

Lynchburg is off tomorrow before Dimasther Delgado opens a series in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday.

Rome Braves 1, Charleston RiverDogs 6
  • Brandon Drury, 3B: 1-3, 2B, .167
  • Elmer Reyes, SS: 1-3, 3B, R, .238
  • David Filak, SP: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 3 K, 2.08 ERA
A rough day for Rome as they only managed to muster 1 run on 4 hits on the afternoon. The lone run came in the 8th when Elmer Reyes tripled and Tony Mueller drove him in with a groundout. David Filak was not in his best form either, as the young righty allowed 4 runs (2 earned) over six innings pitched. He gave up 6 hits, 2 walks, and plunked three batters. He also had 5 steals against him in 6 innings, so to say this was a wild game is a bit of an understatement. Given all that, he was lucky to limit the damage as much as he did.

Rome heads home to kick off a series with Augusta tomorrow. Probables haven't yet been announced.
