Tuesday exhibition to showcase Cox and Braves minor leaguers |
The trash-talking started a little early, more than 24 hours before iconic former Braves manager Bobby Cox takes on his protégé Fredi Gonzalez Tuesday when the Braves minor league All-Stars meet the Atlanta Braves for an exhibition Tuesday at Coolray Field. "We’re out here working on squeezes and rundowns," said Cox who kidded on a cell phone call with Gonzalez while watching the likes of prospects Joey Terdoslavich, Christian Bethancourt, and Nick Ahmed loosen up at Coolray.

The 36-year-old right-hander said he felt like he could have pitched another inning Monday, but it would have been perhaps too physically taxing, as he could already feel his legs wearing down toward the end of his second inning. He has thrown as many as 40 pitches during live batting practice, but he is still building up arm strength and endurance in order to rejoin the Braves' rotation some time in late April or early May.

Tyler Pastornicky in as starting shortstop for Atlanta Braves | News
"I think the guys on the team helped me a lot. I think the coaching staff has been really supportive," Pastornicky said. "It's been awesome, as far as getting that. That's helped me out a lot. Just continuing to work hard and believing in myself, that's helped a lot. "I'm kind of proud of myself for turning it around after getting off to a rough start, and being able to kind of find myself there. It was awesome. I'm going to continue to try to build on that and then take it into the season, get it rolling off to a good start."

Griffin: World Series signs point to Angels-Braves duel |
The Braves had a dominant bullpen in 2011 that just ran out of gas in September, as the Cardinals slipped by for the wild card and the World Series. The NL East is as deep as the AL East, but the Braves will be the beasts of their division.
