I really hope these guys weren't planning on a spring road trip to see Freddie during the next two weeks.
The good news from Florida just keeps coming for the Atlanta Braves. While Tommy Hanson may finally be recovered from the concussion related symptoms that have sidelined him for over a week, now first baseman Freddie Freeman will apparently be sidelined for a fortnight. Here is MLB's Mark Bowman with the latest:
[...] Braves are dealing with the fact that Freddie Freeman will likely spend the next two weeks resting a right knee injury that he suffered during Tuesday morning’s workout at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex.
Freeman’s right knee popped out of place as he reached to pick a low throw at first base. He limped off the field and was still walking with a heavy limp as he made his way toward a photo shoot on Tuesday afternoon.
"I was just doing pick drills and the knee gave out," Freeman said. "The kneecap went this way and I came back in. When I did this when I was playing in Triple-A, it took me two weeks. So that is what we are going on."
Not the best of news for the Braves, but if an injury requiring two weeks to recover is going to happen, then spring training is as good a time as any for it. If Freeman returns in two weeks, he'll still have two more weeks to get ready for the season, and that will likely be all he needs. I guess it's also good to know that he's done this before and knows what it will take to return from the injury.
Now if I may say something to the rest of the team, "please drive safely and watch your step."
