Jair's Tiny Big-Toe Joint
I hadn't heard about this before. Is this just a case of 'Best Off-Season Ever' or is there something legitimate here about JJ's health moving forward? Maybe this will help get a full season from him?
Quote from Article that most intrigued me:
"Jurrjens is especially excited for a fresh start. He went just 1-3 after being selected for his first All-Star Game and was mentioned prominently in trade talks over the winter. But he’s still in Atlanta, eager to get in full season now that doctors have discovered the underlying cause of his lingering knee problems—a shorter-than-normal joint in his right big toe, which caused his ankle to turn outward and put more street on the knee.
After being fitted with orthotics, the pain was gone in a couple of weeks.
"I feel like I’m a brand new kid," said Jurrjens, who just turned 26 this past weekend. "I’m happy I’m here and I’ll be trying to help the team as much as I can."

Had to rec this
Hope it solves his health issues
Me too, me too
Thanks for the rec, and yes, if this can help Jurrjens stay healthy and at the peak of his game for a full season this is potentially huge. That’s why I was curious if other people knew about this? What the extent of the truth of it, in terms of providing long-term health for his knee, might be?

This is great news, excellent find!! (should be front page material)
If this is really the cause, wow this is absolutely outstanding!!
It is a shame for JJ his family, his teammates,The Braves FO staff, the org. has a whole, and for us fans that it took this long to find this out.
If JJ can truly return to full health this already ridiculously deep rotation just got much better. We, as fans, have seen JJ do work when he’s healthy. and when he is healthy he is one of the best and most mature rising pitching youngsters in the game going.
I beg and pray this is 100% true, but I guess we will have 2 see this upcoming year. If it turns out to be true, keeping JJ could definitely be worth much, much more as value going forward, or he could make a say MM much more expendable.
Great news all-around, and as I previously stated EXCELLENT FIND, and this SHOULD Be on the front page soon.
Good Work, Mr. MattHatter !!!

Thanks
Please, just call me Matt.
Yeah, if we can have some greater confidence and assurance of JJ’s health moving forward it really helps with the depth and strength of our rotation and makes keeping him worth much more than what we could have received in a trade.

rec'ed
Although im still hoping we can trade JJ for some depth… his lack of strikeouts and our amazing pitching depth… I hope we can get a nice outfielder or thirdbasemen of the future for him… and his health is probably the only reason he hasnt been traded yet… so big REC here

All the money spent on team doctors and facilities...
they solve Mac’s eye problem by getting him off coffee, and JJ’s chronic knee problem by giving him a shoe insert!

and this little piggy went to the doctor :^)
Fascinating how the smallest thing can effect your mechanics & cause you to put extra stress on other parts of the body. Who would of thought to check his big toe? Sounds like a House episode. “It’s not auto-imune Scully! Check his big toe!!”

Good to have great hope about JJ staying healthy
even if he regress a bit, he is still a very solid SP
Now, if he regain his form from the first half of last year and a team is willing to give up the King’s Ransom for him. It will be tough to see him leave (but that’s probably the best case scenario…assuming other Braves SPs, Huddy and Hanson can get healthy as well).

Well now. That made me smile :-)
But the “and this little piggy went to the doctor”.. above by adc62 was priceless.

THE QUICKER THE JJ TRADE CAN BE MADE.
As soon as JJ gets a few good starts under his belt the trade market will be wide open again. We know Boras is his agent and he’ll want the world and then some. So, better to trade him now (we have such a surplus, assuming Huddy and Hanson are good) we should get the best for him now before the season ends and we get nothing.
