Another $200+ million contract this off-season
Unbelieveable.

This is my time to rant, i hope not to offend anyone. Liberty media needs to sell the F*****g team. It is incredibly unfair that teams can spend upwards or 20 million more than us. I belive that with 15 mil more we could go to division favorites had we signed jose or had we been able to make a trade without clearing salary. LM does not have the best interest of the braves orginazation they just bought us for a f*****g tax break un beliveable
I do get your frustration, but the fact is that the Braves have been under budget constraints for a VERY LONG time now. David Justice was sent packing to save money. Kevin Milwood was traded to free up the cash to keep Maddux around for one more season after Schuerholz let the fans force him into offering arbitration. There were the Drew, Sheffield and Texeira rentals with no serious attempts to re-sign any of them long term (the offer Tex was given was NOT serious, coming in at something like $8-9 million a season under what he ended up getting). I’m not saying Liberty Media is great, but they are better than Time Warner. Time Warner sold the Thrashers and Hawks to the hated Atlanta Spirit and now we are minus one NHL hockey team and have a great NBA team that nobody wants to see because the owners suck so much. Time Warner had a hard budget on the Braves too. And keep in mind that other teams like the Cardinals and Marlins make do with less money and have won World Championships while the Braves haven’t even won a playoff series since 2001.
I believe I know why he signed with Detroit
It has nothing to do with money or contract length…

REC.
Serious uppercase rec. quality stuff.
Braun has got to feel more secure now….about his potato chips (especially the ones laced with that special sauce).

The owner of the Tigers
also owns Little Caesars’ PIzza. Coincidence?

So when Victor Martinez returns next year, is he back to playing C?
That’s 3 1B for 2 spots (including DH) with him, Martinez, and Miggy.

wondering the same thing
I think it would be hilarious and improve future not top tens on sportscenter if they moved cabrera to 3rd.
This...
It’s incredibly short-sighted, unless the Tigers are planning to make a huge trade at some point.
Luckily for the Braves, the injury to VMart kept Fielder off the Nats. While we still would’ve been better than them, adding Fielder to a line-up with Zimmerman and Werth would have made them tough.
GATA!
I wonder if they think Cabrera can go to LF, and renew their efforts to trade for Prado to play 3B.

Maybe...
It’s odd to think the third highest baseball contract ever (I think) was potentially made as a knee-jerk reaction to a season-ending injury.
NINE years. Wow.
Were the considering Fielder before the injury to Martinez?
GATA!
If they weren't, going 9 years when you lost a player for just one makes no sense
they had to have been the “mystery team” all along.
http://sportsandgrits.com/
You're right.
They have to be the mystery team, for that’s way too much money.
On MLB Trade Rumors, I read the Tigers are considering Miguel at third after this season. Can he still play third? I would think not, but who knows?
GATA!
Awesome news!!
Is anybody else relieved he’s not going to be in a Nationals uni for the next 9 years?
I would love to see him in a Nats uni for the last 4-5 years of that. Assuming, of course, he could still fit in a Nats uni.
If we can land [Stephen Drew], I will give FW a bj.

Honestly, with the amount of money spent i think the Nats would have handcuffed themselves when the time came to sign Zimmerman, Strasberg, Harper and all the rest of there top drafted players that will be coming out soon.. So to be honest i would have loved the Nats picking him up… cause in the long run it would have hurt the Nats… he will be great for about 4-5 years and the last 4-5 years he will be running on bad knees cause of his fata$$.. and unlikely be able to field at all towards the end..
Good point
I think he will be better for longer as a DH in Detroit. Could have been potentially disastrous those last few years in the NL

I'm so glad the NL East is NAT getting any harder.
If our offense holds out, we should be very competitive this season.
June 2009. Braves vs Brewers @ the Ted.
Fielder homers twice to lead the Brew Crew to victory & ruin my Father’s Day trip/gift to the park. Glad to see him going to the AL hopefully to never inflict pain like that on me again.
