Good deal, or will he end up like Dice-K?

Good deal.
The Red Sox got 2 very good years out of Dice-K and many say that had he listened to their trainers instead of doing his own thing that he would have avoided his injuries. I think the Rangers will get maximum value out of him and this will be a good deal for them.
Darvish’s size leads me to believe he’ll be more successful. It’s easy to see why a slight guy like Matsuzaka would have trouble adjusting to the American schedule, but Darvish is huge and sturdy. I think he’ll be fine. Maybe not worth the money, but that’s a tall order for anyone.
I wrote a novel, it's about baseball, you should buy it:

Darvish will be fine
Everything Matsuzaka was and was touted to be, Darvish was and always will be better. The only reason he wasn’t discussed more to this point because was back then, he had stated no interest in moving to MLB to play.
If we’re looking at a guy who needs to accumulate around 12 total WAR to break even on the cost of the contract within six years, I’m fairly confident he’ll accomplish that. Maybe not average out correctly per year, but I think it’s very doable in the span of the deal. His splitter is one really bad, filthy MFer, among his tall frame and comfortable mid-90s velocity.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Yu Darvish has competed on one of the biggest stages (WBC)
and did more than anyone expected him to do. I have a feeling he will be a stand out pitcher for the Rangers and will easily replace the production of CJ Wilson. The rest of the teams out there will be disappointed they did not front the money for this man and I see CC money in his future… I really think the Rangers got a bargain here and I can’t wait to watch him compete.
In the body of other posts, I am often admittedly high and tend to not want to edit a lot.

if Wren gets Arenado from Colorado, I’ll give him a BJ.

Not to say he isn't going to be a stud
because I think he will, I just don’t think the Rangers got a ‘bargain’ when you factor all the costs into it. They paid about 20 million per year for the dude, that doesn’t strike me as a ‘bargain’.
And I’m only speaking strictly about payroll considerations, not money he will bring in through jerseys, more fan interest in Japan, etc. Roughly 20 million a pop is not cheap, seems about market value for him.
