Offseason OT Music Thread
So the Braves are sitting back making the predictable moves and things are starting to get boring. So....music thread? I recall I found Tech N9ne from a thread like this last year, so to someone on this site: thankyou. But for whoever wants to, lets share what we are all currently listening to. Not like we no lifes or bored office workers have anything better to do.
For me I recently came upon Funk Volume the past weeks, its currently only three artists but I can't get enough of two of them. Fans of hip-hop/rap should definetly check them out.

I’ve gotta give you credit for your taste in music. Great to see at least one more person who listens to DKM around here.
believe me there is more than just one more
Chopmaster: my link is my dad who has watched the braves since I don’t know. he’s 56.
gotta love DKM
also love original singer Mike McColgan’s current band The Street Dogs, also very awesome. One of the best live shows I have ever seen. Fading American Dream is a great album.
http://tarpslides-r-us.blogspot.com/
THIS. The Street Dogs are amazing, and Savin’ Hill is every bit as good as Fading American Dream.

Been listening to Bon Iver, The Kings of Leon, Wussy, The Black Keys, Vampire Weekend, a great new band called Dawes, and a cool band I found on the warped tour that does a kind of rock bluegrass thing called Larry and his Flask. Good stuff one and all.
I haven't really listened to Dawes yet.
I saw a video on mtvU once, but other than that I haven’t heard any of their songs. You seem to have similar taste as me. I think I’ll check them out as well as Larry and his Flask.
This is my corn. You people are guests in my corn.
If you like Dawes....
Check out Delta Spirit, Deer Tick, and especially Middle Brother.

I'm pretty much always listening to The Killers and Band of Horses.
I also listen to Blitzen Trapper very often.
As for what I’ve been listening to lately, fellow Georgian Ernest Greene, aka Washed Out, has been playing on my ipod a lot. Also Bon Iver, St. Vincent, The Avett Brother, The Civil Wars and The xx.
Links:

This is my corn. You people are guests in my corn.
wow, you have excellent taste in music… Although, I can’t get into The Avett Bros at all. Way too “hokey”.
Lately, I’m been listening to a lot of Bon Iver, Local Natives, Wilco, Bob Dylan’s early eighties stuff (Infidels, etc) and Feist. I love Fiest.
You'd think I was Travis Tritt struttin my FINE ASS on down to Florida
excellent call on the early 80s Dylan – definitely a strong era in his body of work.
I’m re-visiting early and mid 70s third generation blues stuff, like Ike aTurner and his young sidekick Tina. here’s one: baby baby baby let’s get it on
Civil Wars
Love that couple. Really good stuff. Wilco is just a given. They are definitely a group that I keep coming back to every few weeks. It’s strange how some of their albums are awesome to me and others just don’t do it for me at all though.

The National
will they make a better album than Alligator?
by JoelGuzman'sScout on Jan 20, 2012 11:22 AM EST up reply actions
Alligator is great
But in my opinion, they have 2 albums that are better. Boxer and High Violet. The National is just a great band all around.
with all due respect
to say that either Boxer or High Violet is better than Alligator is ridiculous. Neither is better than Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers and Alligator blows them all out of the water.

How is that ridiculous?
You act as if this isn’t all subjective.

I guess its a matter of opinion
I like those 2 the best.
I didn’t pick up the M83 album until recently, and it’s been in my rotation since. I think it’s their best stuff.

That album is excellent
Sounds like you already have their other album Saturdays = Youth, but if not, some really good stuff on there too. And if you get a chance to see them live, do it. Saw them in October, great show.
I have a mix of their old stuff, but I don’t have that album. I’ll check it out. They do seem like a really good live band though, if they come within a hundred mies of me, I imagine I’ll bite the bullet and check them out.

I recently came across this truly great version of Gimme Shelter, one of my favoritest old rock & roll tunes, featuring a very awesome and woefully under-appreciated blues vocalist, Lisa Fisher, who at the time was young, slender, and absolutely smokin’ with hotness and nastiness.

One of my friends, who knows just about every band out there, turned me on to them. They are a very underground version of rock but their lead lead Max Bemis is one of the most interesting people out there. I’d recomend their first nationally produced album, Is a Real Boy…

Funeral Diner. I can never get enough of that band. envy, too.
The new PJ Harvey is good in a “she’s now an artist (not in a good way)” vein.
9 types of light – TV on the Radio. The kind of album Prince should be making.
That new Drake album is pretty good if you dig hip hop. I, personally, love the Shabazz Palaces album. Hip Hop like the Roots used to make (funky and politically aware).
Kurt Vile – Smoke Ring for my Halo is pretty badass.
The Fleet Foxes album is helping me bide my time until Sufjan Stevens rerealizes that he’s a folk singer and not a hipster.
Finally, my #1 album of last year: St. Vincent, “Strange Mercy”. wow. just, wow.

i saw sufjan in paris with me wife right after illinoise came out. it was perfect, honestly. everything since has been, well, shit. Age of Adz is perhaps the worst album to come from a good artist since Kill Uncle or, aghast, Cut the Crap.

Haha, my bad on the spelling. I meant herion.
Google Chrome has recently made me lazy on the spell checking. My friend absolutely hated the show. He was just such a big fan of his old stuff, and Sufjan actuallly said a quick “I’m sorry” when he started with the new stuff because he of the negative feedback at the live shows. I didn’t really listen to it that much, but it crushed my friend.

I briefly listened to them during Sound of Silver, but not until This is Happening did I get big into them. I’m still getting adjusted to their older stuff. It’s a shame that Murphy had to put an end to it. I traveled 13 hours to see them live, and I don’t think anything will ever beat their live show.
