Lower than the anticipated mark. Well-done, Wren.

agreed. Might be safe to assume we are pretty much going into next season as currently constructed.
Braves.
Falcons.
Gamecocks.
Unless we trade Jurrjens...
no one else really makes sense. Hudson isn’t going anywhere (10/5, among so many other reasons). It wouldn’t make much sense to trade a minimum salaried Hanson, Minor, Beachy, Teheran, or Delgado. So, that leaves Jurrjens as the only one making more than the minimum. Unless we trade him, I’d say signing Wilson pretty much set us.
McCann, Freeman, Uggla, Chipper, Pastornicky, Prado, Bourn, Heyward.
Ross, Hinske, Wilson, Diaz, Constanza.
Hudson, Hanson, Jurrjens, Beachy, Minor.
Kimbrel, Venters, Medlen, O’Flaherty, Martinez, pick 2 from Varvaro, Hoover, Gearrin, Cordier, Valdez, Ascencio, etc.

That bench is a bit worrisome unless Ross is going to PH.
If we can land [Stephen Drew], I will give FW a bj.

Expecting big things from our CF in 2012
FA after this season. He’ll be playing hard to put up some good stats to show his worth on the market next year.
"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." Rogers Hornsby
Now let's see...
… how Boras wants to price Jurrjens: he’s the only one left, and this decision might have the effect of either making JJ more of a trade target… or not. My thought?… well, I’m a little surprised that he and Bourn agreed to a figure under $7m, so maybe he’d be open to a deal on JJ to make him a little more valuable to somebody else.

Got our answer...
The Braves avoided arbitration with starter Jair Jurrjens on a deal worth $5.5MM, MLBTR has learned. He can earn another $25K each time for reaching 175, 180, 190, 200, 210, and 215 innings.
…and the answer is “nope, not really.”

scott boras isn't having the best offseason ever
Braves.
Falcons.

I’ll be sure to shed a tear for him as he’s driving his yacht around his private island stocked with supermodels.

Braves.

25-man roster payroll estimate
(Projecting some of the positions)
Position Players
1. Prado $4.75
2. Bourn $6.845m
3. Heyward (est. $525,000)
4. Freeman (est. $500,000)
5. Uggla $12.4m
6. Pastornicky $480,000
7. CJones $14m.
8. McCann $8.67m
9. Diaz, $2m ($1m believed to have been provided by Pittsburgh)
10. Hinske $1.5m
11. Ross $1.625m
12. Wilson $1m (plus up to $500K incentives)
13. Constanza $480,000
Pitchers
1. Hudson $9m
2. Jurrjens $5.5m (plus up to $150K incentives)
3. Hanson (est. $500,000)
4. Beachy (est. $500,000)
5. Minor (est. $500,000)
> Teheran and Delgado est. to start in AAA. Add $480K if one of them has to replace an injured starter, pro-rated to service-time-year.
6. Medlen (est. $500,000)
7. Kimbrell (est. $500,000)
8. Venters (est. $525,000)
9. EOF, $2.49m
10. Martinez (est. $525,000)
11. Vizzy $480,000
12. Gearrin or other PTBNL, $480,000 (same price regardless of name)
Finally: Derek Lowe – $10 million.
Rationale: new CBA puts the minimum ML salary to $480,000. Braves can, if they wish, hammer all controlled players to this figure. I believe that those with 1 yr. of ML experience will be a notch up ($500K), with another bump for the 2yr guys ($525K). Exception: Hanson, who (with Boras) argued a bit and received an imposed figure of $456,500 last year.
Note that whether Constanza makes the squad, or a pitcher, or whatever… it’s still a $480K “slot” for that 25th guy.
ESTIMATED TOTAL: (with no incentives) $86.275 million.

Only thing I notice right off-hand is that Medlen has another year of service time, that would bump him another $25K, if that assumption holds. Heyward was also paid about $67K above league minimum in 2011, so I would guess there’s another bump there…
Not sure what Pittsburgh paid for Diaz. Otherwise, that looks marvelous.

It’s rough to sit through these games and not have someone that can’t hit a Ball?
Few Corrections
Cots has Uggla at 13MM this year. I don’t know how his bonus was paid — if it was 1MM lump sum in ‘11 then 13MM is the figure, otherwise 13.2MM for this year if it was paid in equal installments. 5yrs / 62MM total = 12.4, but that’s not how it was structured. Also, McCann met escalators in his contract such that his ‘12 salary is 11.667 not 8.667 (this is directly from Cot’s). Otherwise I agree.
Eliminating the noise re: pre-arb players, the payroll is essentially 90MM on the dot or close to it.
Yeah, I think you're right.
Uggla: The deal is worth $62MM, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Dave O’Brien of the Atlanta-Journal Constitution tweets that the salary in the first year of the deal is $9MM, plus a $1MM signing bonus. The salaries then even out to $13MM annually over the four remaining years.
Not sure now where that 12.4 came from… and I didn’t have the McCann escalators from my (earlier) Cot’s data pull.
So… adding up the errors... $86.275 + 600K + 3mm + probably another 100K… $89.975.
Might as well say “90 million bucks”.
