A break from the ordinary: June/July 2012 Rosterbation
As trade rumors have died down with Adam Jones and Seth Smith (thankfully) and with the majority of our moves this offseason complete, I figured it was time to look further down the road: Midseason.
Assumptions I'll make based on last year:
1) Uggla stays healthy and puts together a similar season, albeit a more consistent season starting off, pencilling him in for 30+ HRS and a power bat in the middle of the order.
2) SP remains a strength, even if we have a SP or two go down during the year due to a shoulder, leg, tendinitis, or whatever injuries you can think of.
3) Freeman produces a similar year, maybe better, maybe a little worse, but remains a consistent force in the lineup
4) McCann stays McCann
5) Bourn is Bourn
6) O'Ventbrel stays dominant
Now for the question marks..
Scenario 1: Chipper goes down.. again..but for a long time.
Yes, Prado would slot into that spot, so that opens up a vacancy in LF.
Who would be some potential fits? Who would be willing to move?
Scenario 2: The Pastor flames out quickly.
He's a rookie, so who knows, but its best to stay positive.
Who would be a mid-season acquisition the Braves would target?
Scenario 3: Heyward doesn't rebound.
Does he go down to the minors, does he remain the starter throughout, does he get traded (i know, i know, but just wanted to throw the option out there).
So, to summarize: LF, SS, and RF midseason acquisitions.
Keep it clean..ish.

All very frightning possibilities...
I think we all have resigned ourselves to the fact that Chipper will break down for good eventually. He’s like my Nissan Pathfinder. I know it’s on borrowed time but it’s just too damn good to give up so i’m gonna ride it till the wheels fall off.
As for the other 2 scenarios you mentioned I really have NO CLUE. I’m a little disturbed that Wren didn’t get on the ball during the winter meetings. I’m afraid we will find ourselves behind the 8ball and have to deal more than we want for less than we need. I really like Logan Morrison outta Miami in LF. Maybe we could deal a few prospects ( albeit top ones ) and
patch him into the lineup. SS, well…no idea about what we would do If we have to revisit our need once the season has started. Really was hoping we’d somehow kidnap Reyes and bring him to ATL…I know, i’m CRAZY.
So I wonder this
Hate to waste money on a ss backup when there is a chance we will need to pay for a real replacement.. Hate to pay for a backup, pastornicky flop, not have money to get a real replacement cause we spent it on the backup..
the money we'd spend for a backup
is a pittance compared to what we’d spend if we needed a starter, so that’s irrelevant.

dont see Logan Morrison
Miami has to do all it can this year to stay in the race, given all their acquisitions and need to excite the fan base. Also, we would have to offer a serious haul in all likelihood to get him, because trading within the division is always tricky, and Miami won’t want to be perceived as losing that trade
Zobrist?
the Rays need bats more than we do. they have as much, if not more, pitching as us. what do we trade them??
wow, man. put the pipe down.

There are still two months or so left for Wren to make a deal. I wouldn’t count us out of anything yet.
Heyward doesn’t get traded this year. Period. Why would they? The only reason they would want to trade the guy is if he’s not performing at all. And then he’s a terrible trade commodity. With all of that potential, they aren’t giving up on a guy that’s 22.
Can you imagine if we traded him? And he became the terrific player we all thought and still think he can become? If he becomes a .290/.400/.500, 30 HR,15 SB, GG defense player? Because he could still totally do that, even if he has a terrible year this year.
You'd think I was Travis Tritt struttin my FINE ASS on down to Florida
I could see the ol' bait and switch...
“Hey, Rockies GM, think we’re asking a lot for Prado? I’ll give ya the steal of the century. You can have him AND Jason Heyward. For Troy Tulowitski, Nolan Arrenado, Seth Smith, and Tim Wheeler, and a player to be named later, and cash.”

that's a TON of money in Tulo.
But i’d do that deal in a heartbeat.
Heck, a Prado + Heyward for Arenado + Cargo would work for me.

I would much prefer tulo to cargo
Chopmaster: my link is my dad who has watched the braves since I don’t know. he’s 56.
I think the biggest need would more than likely be an OF
I don’t think Wren goes outside the organization for a SS.
Would a Nelson Cruz for JJ swap be something feasible? Not sure of his contract situation, sneaking in some comments while working.
Who are the contenders in June/July?
I think you have to look at who is contending or on the cusp of contending. You have to look at the Braves and if they are in or out of the race.
If the Braves are out of the race I would offer up all of the following:
Hudson
Hanson
Jurrjens
Uggla
Prado
Bourn
This could fill out a number of positions with close to the major high end prospects.
If the Braves are in contention and need only a piece or two, you would have to go with Delgado, Vizcaino and maybe Betancourt.
I assumed the "normal"
Yankees, red sox
The al central is a crap shoot
Rangers
Phils, braves
Cards/brewers
West is crap shoot
But for the sake of argument, everyone is fair game.
