Braves quotes after doubleheader sweep of Mets | Atlanta Braves
Fredi Gonzalez, on young Braves pitchers: "Those kids are really doing a terrific job. … Not many organizations has that kind of depth. They come up here and give you a hell of a chance to win every time they go out."

Chipper in No. 2 slot for first time since '00 ASG | braves.com: News
A good number of Chipper Jones' 452 Major League home runs were longer, it turns out, than his memory. Jones, batting second in Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez's lineup in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader, said the only time he hit in that position was at the 2000 All-Star Game. 'Went 3-for-3 with my only All-Star home run, so you remember that," he said. But it turns out Jones batted second four times in 1996, his second season.

Fredi not worried about Venters' rough patch | braves.com: News
"We're going to release him," joked manager Fredi Gonzalez, who doesn't think a shortage of leads recently have left the sinkerballer's arm too fresh for its own good.

Hanson slated to throw off mound Sunday | braves.com: News
Braves right-hander Tommy Hanson, who hasn't pitched since Aug. 6 while recovering from a small tear in his rotator cuff, threw off flat ground on Wednesday. Hanson is scheduled to work off a mound for the first time on Sunday, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. "He's just playing catch, really progressing well," Gonzalez said. "[We're] excited about the way he's progressing."

With the "magic number"

If When the Braves win tonight does it drop by one or two?

Drops by 2 in relation to the Cards, unless another team jumps them.

depends on San Fran's series

but with them a full game back, I’d assume it’d jump at least two if we win the first game. Gotta win though, just win, and we’re in.

Burying the Cards this weekend would be nice,

and a bit cathartic after the post-Irene skid.

here's to hoping Tommy's session goes well.

need to get about 8 more starts out of the arm before winter. preferably 8 of the quality they were the last time he came off the dl.

My confidence for the playoffs is wayyy higher with Tommy healthy. Also, Diamondbacks are pretty close to the Brewers. Playing them in the first round instead of Milwaukee would be nice!

Not to mention a chance to avenge

the 2001 NLCS.

Anyone get the quote on the TShirt some players were wearing prior to the Mets games?

The post game show mentioned it, but I didn’t catch what was on it.

LOL @ Ross stealing Chipper's bats.

Love that guy.

If we can land [Stephen Drew], I will give FW a bj.
