Joey Terdoslavich tied a 65 year old Carolina League record with his 51st double of the season, Ernesto Mejia hit 2 homers and set a Mississippi single season record for hits, and unfortunately timely errors cost Rome in extra innings.

In the bottom of the 1st, Joey Terdoslavich hit his 51st double of the season, tying a Carolina League record set in 1946 by Durham's Woody Fair. In 65 years of play, countless future Major League All-Stars, MVPs, and Hall Of Famers played in the Carolina League, but none of them could do what Terdoslavich has done this year. He also hit his 19th homer of the year, giving him 72 extra base hits on the season. Andrelton Simmons hit his 34th double of the season and stole his 25th base, and in his last 3 games he's gone 6-12.
Matt Talley, just promoted from Danville, will start tomorrow.
Rome Braves 8, Augusta GreenJackets 9, 16 innings
- Matt Lipka SS 4-7, 2 2B, BB, SB (28), E (14), .244 AVG
- David Rohm RF 3-8, 2B, .282 AVG

Errors were the theme of the day, as a Matt Lipka error in the 5th led to 8 unearned Augusta runs, and a Elmer Reyes error in the 16th started an inning that ended with Tyler Stovall walking in the winning run. Aside from the error, Lipka had 4 hits, including a pair of doubles, and in his last 5 games he's gone 11-24 with 3 doubles. In his last 4 games, Ryan Delgado has gone 7-18 with 3 doubles, a triple, 2 homers, and 7 RBI. Willie Kempf struck out 5 and allowed 8 unearned runs in 4.2 innings, and he'll finish his season with a 8-8 record, a 4.86 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP in 133.1 innings between Lynchburg and Rome. interesting
a Matt Lipka error in the 5th led to 8 unearned Augusta runs
how does that happen?
His error was on the first batter of the inning, so every run after that became unearned. I’ve always thought there were some more refined rules, but every Minor League boxscore I’ve seen recently has things like that going on.

really?
I always thought the only way runs would be unearned like that is if there are two outs recorded either before or after the error is made. Once there are two outs, every run scored after that point is an unearned run, because, theoretically, the pitcher would have been out of the mess by that point had the error not occurred.
This is correct
and literally the only way that a single error to start the inning would make every run in that inning unearned. There must have been two outs recorded between the error and the first run scoring.

What’s even wilder was the 7 consecutive 2 out singles the Greenjackets put on us after the error. I’ve never seen an inning like it. Great to see Elmer Reyes back! He got his BA healthy again a few weeks back seeing Appy League pitching, his confidence was up, why didn’t they bring him back to Rome sooner?
Absolutely not true ...
According to the official box score – of the eight runs scored in that inning only 3 were unearned.

That makes more sense.

Which official box score are you looking at? The only one I’ve seen is the one on MiLB.com

Yep
Rome Braves
Player….. IP….H….R ….ER
Kempf….. 4.2…8….8……0
Eight runs, none earned. Never seen that one. Poster above says there were seven straight 2-out singles. Unbelievable.

I didn’t even see that until you posted it… bring the kid up!!
51 homers is very impressive. Or doubles. It’s basically the same thing, right?

neh, doubles are better
they show courtesy and restraint.. he’s a nice guy
Congrats Terdo
Great season for him. Even though the season is coming to an end, I can’t wait to see how our prospects perform next year especially the hitters.
+1 ....
Terdo has mashed this season !! Thought maybe he would get a shot at the AFL – disappointed he was not chosen.

I really want to see him make it to the big leagues, just so I can his fan base at the games. We all remember McCann’s Cans…

and Francoeur’s Franks…

Can you imagine the possibilities for Terdoslavich?

Good to see Harrilchak & Lipka finishing strong & my gosh...
do we have some outstanding 1B prospects (Gomez, Mejia, Joey T & Beckwith)
I think the NL needs the DH soon for these guys!
Also need to include David Rohm on that list – he has had a great August and is continuing that into September !!

Interesting note .....
Looks like the Braves may be getting a little weary of Salcedo’s errors – in the last 2 weeks – Salcedo has been relegated to designated hitter duty six times. Also, I am very concerned about his meltdown at the plate – hit only .192 in August and is 1 for 11 in September. Anybody heard anything – is he hurt ?

My guess is he’s just exhausted and playing in the field tired is making him make errors, which is killing his confidence. They’ve put him at DH various times throughout the year to let him rest and still play. The only people getting weary of Salcedo’s errors are people commenting on blogs. The Braves love Salcedo and are very confident he will become a solid defender.

Salcedo has DHed 11 times this year – never 6 times in a span of 2 weeks – the frequency leads to speculation that it is a bigger issue – they started it right after he made 5 errors in a four day span. As far as being tired, who isn’t at this time of year – I’m sorry – I don’t feel sorry for somebody who signed for 1.6 million dollars – let him play tired !!
