What to do with Derek Lowe
The season is over, yes, it's sad. But the Atlanta Braves have some of the best pitching prospects in all of the game. We've still got Tim Hudson, Hanson & Jurrjens as well...though I don't think paying them for future use is the best idea.
The big question is though: What do the Braves do with Derek Lowe? There's no way he can pitch in this rotation again, right? And shouldn't this really be the end of the Braves signing free agent pitchers? Mike Hampton and now this. What a nightmare!
Personally, I believe the Braves should trade Hanson & JJ, maybe even as a package for some really amazing shortstop/third base talents or even current stars at those positions. It's a much better idea than keeping them and letting them sign big contracts with the Sox & Yankees in a few years.
But alas, i'm distracted. What do we do with Lowe? Nobody wants him, we don't want him...what do we do?

No one wants him.
And no one will pay the guy $15 Million so i say put him in the bullpen and he can give us a ground ball every once in a while. who knows
GO DAWGS!!! GO PALADINS!!!
Let him play ball in AAA
If we can not trade him to another team with the selling points that he had “two good months in September and October 2010” and he was big game pitcher ie 2004 Red Sox (you know the bullshit Brvaes and the organization feeds to the fans), let him play in AAA until we actually need him for injury replacement. I do not care if he is making 15 million, money is not a legit reason/excuse to give the guy the ball every five days. It is not like he draws a ton of fans to the park to watch him pitch.

With Minor, Delgado and Teheran ready for MLB, I’d offer Hanson, Lowe and $8M to the Marlins for Logan Morrison.
Hudson, Jurrjens, Beachy, Minor, Delgado, Teheran, Medlen, Martinez and eventually Gilmartin can handle things.
"First!"...Who gives a damn if you are first
Granted Lowe has negative value but no way we should trade Hanson for Morrison

trade him for AJ Burnett
I know Burnett sucks, but both of them have similar salaries and could use a change of scenery… Does Burnett have 1 or 2 years left on his contract? if 2 then hell no
JJ is as good as gone, IMO.
JJ is the trade piece we should use to try and get an offensive upgrade at SS and/or a legit, above-average hitting LF/RF.
You’re crazy/ stupid if you want to trade JJ AND Hanson. You’re crazy/ stupid for watning to trade Hanson, frankly. He has a very high ceiling and has been an excellent pitcher already in his short career and is under control for years to come. Not keeping him is dumb unless you can reeeaaally make a trade (Pujols, Halladay, etc.) involving him.
More than likely Lowe still be retained in kept in the rotation and given “another chance”. Ideally, we could move him and at best half of his salary to another team for virtually nothing in return, but simply getting some of his money off the books is the goal.
If Derek pitches poorly in ST, I’d think it would be the honorable thing for him to retire or willingly opt-out of the contract but….that’s not going to happen.
Why is it a stupid idea to trade Hanson?
The guy is an arm injury waiting to happen. I have never stolen a base in my life and I could run on Tommy Hanson,he is the worst pitcher at holding runners on, its a double whammy when BMac is behind the plate.
I think the Tigers would actually still consider him...
but only if we kicked in $7MM-$8MM or so and maybe a C prospect. That’s a big ballpark and a lot of those flies stay in there.
people
forget Moustakas is LH and was a -WAR player before his hot streak to end the year.
he’s got talent, yes, but he’s not what we need right now.
Plus, the Royals aren’t trading a cost-controlled (and good) player.
Now, Gordon??

People
Also forget that he is still young and that was his first taste of the big leagues.
I think...
Try your hardest to trade Lowe and Hanson/J.J. for a long term option at short or in the outfield. Here is what i would try to do.
Trade Lowe, J.J., and a prospect (not one of the top prospects) to the Mets in a sign and trade deal for Jose Reyes.
Either way I think the Braves will do whatever they can to get rid of Lowe and J.J. or Hanson. I think they’ve realized that Teheran, Delgado, Vizcaino, Beachy, and Minor can’t just sit in the minors anymore. They are all ready for a full time spot. This would still leave us J.J. or Hanson and Hudson. The Braves can used J.J. or Hanson to get what they are missing on offense (outfield or shortstop) and also load the bullpen up with more arms other than Eric, Craig, and Johnny. The Braves offseason is going to be a very exciting one. I expect us to be in contention again and better than this season. The Braves are going to be a force for years to come.
Why would you sign and trade...
When you could just sign?
Thats Easy
Trade him to the Mets for Reyes……lol
how do you trade for a free agent?

You trade him + $5-10m
and use the savings on a 4th OF who can play LF when Prado is at 3rd for Chipper. Then try to flip Hanson or Jurrjens for a long term fixture at SS.

Trade him for Reyes, Pujols, and Kemp
Championship
Go USA, Braves, BU Terriers, Irish, Caps, Skins, NU Cats, Wizards, DC United, Washington Freedom
BU Hockey: National Champions 1971, 1972, 1978, 1995, 2009
Pray he pulls a Gil Meche and retires....
….really, that’s the best case scenario. He has no trade value without the team picking up a ton of his salary anyway.
Trade him anyway
Even if we have to send the other team $14M, we still come out $1M ahead.
