Potential Astros News
The wife of Astros’ closer, Mark Melancon, was induced into labor after last night’s 5-4 win against the Cardinals. Mrs. Melancon is still in labor as of 6pm ET and he is not likely to be available for tonight’s game against the Cardinals.

I am The One Who Shall Remain Avatar-less.
Please Remember: Lowe did pitch well in his last start
He did a lot of work with Roger on altering his mechanics after getting bombed by the Mets. He pitched well enough to keep the Braves in the game. He just got overshadowed by Javier Vazquez figuring out how to pitch again lately. I’ll take three runs and into the 7th inning all day.
The offense has got to hit with runners on base. Period.

Well, the Red Sox acted the opposite
And they played no better either. After the original 3-game sweep by the Rays back on 9/9-9/11, David Ortiz came out and said, “Oh yeah, it’s time to panic.”
Red Sox played uptight and panicked. It did them no matter and they’ve actually played worse than the Braves.
bottom line is losing is contagious… and you dig a hole and it’s quicksand

The same thing that has happened to us
has happened to them . Injuries to the starting pitching . Although , our offense sure hasn’t helped much…..ooops , I mean at all .
I believe it was Chipper in an interview
that said they were somewhat pleased with the way they played last night . I guess as long as you score of off Lee , win or lose , you played well .
Can we go ahead and get a RUNS thread up?

Braves Pound Oswalt
I can say this in complete confidence bc I have Oswalt on a fantasy team that is in the championship game, so I get the jinx on him. Braves win, I lose. Plain and simple, and I’ll be happy to take the loss for the betterment of Braves fans everywhere.

hey OT ???? Ozzie Guillén
Could thate Ozzie Guillén guy from the white sox be a good fit for the braves manager next year i know he is going to the marlins and i know we will be stuck with freddi but he could be the right guy to light a fire under the clubs ass. he be crazy but would be interesting
saw that but would you think he would be a good fit
or better then freddiot ?
maybe… but from what I understand no one like Ozzie… only the media… he just rants endlessly
by SuperHeyward on Sep 27, 2011 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't like managers who directly call out players in the media
I like what Terry Collins did when he said he thought the team had packed it up. He was just lighting a fire and challenging them. Ozzie just calls out players publicly when they are playing badly just to vent. I don’t like that.
He's basically already with the Marlins
They traded their #4 and #5 prospects(prior to this season, anyway) for Guillen. I’m hearing that his contract could run through 2015..

Oswalt's career numbers in Turner Field
1-1, 5.86 ERA in 7 regular season appearances (6 starts). It’s his worst ERA in a visitor’s park that he’s pitched in more than once. However, his one win was with the Phillies earlier this year on April 9. He allowed 2 earned runs in 6 innings in a 10-2 laugher for the Phillies.
GOOD: Alex Gonzalez is hitting .414 (12-for-29) against Oswalt with 2 home runs.
BAD: Dan Uggla is hitting .125 (3-for-24) against Oswalt with 10 strikeouts.
Lose tonight, Braves,
and you can forget about coming home. The doors will all be locked.

That’s a really flawed way of looking at it. When you aggregate numbers like that, it obscures really poor contributions from one player or good contributions from another.
Uggla is the worst against Oswalt, and over the largest sample size, I believe. I was under the impression that Chipper hits him well, but I don’t have the stats up right now.

WARNING - PROFANITY-LACED RANT BELOW
Fuck you, Derek Lowe. Seriously. Fuck you. You suck. You overpaid, under-performing fucking 7th or 8th best starter on our staff. I hope you are DFA’d after this game.
Fuck you, Fredi Gonzalez. Fuck you for starting Derek Lowe, our 7th or 8th best starter in the most important game of our season. The man is fucking terrible, and obviously can no longer pitch at this level, and yet, you still start him.
Fuck you for not being able to construct a lineup. I know it’s not your fault that some guys are slumping. However, you still suck at constructing a lineup. I mean, seriously, how hard is it to have a lineup of Bourn, Chipper, Freeman, Uggla, McCann, Heyward, Prado and Gonzalez? That is the best lineup we can have, and you refuse to construct it. You continue to bat Prado, who has been the worst hitter on the team all season (with the exception of Gonzalez, but then again, I did say “hitter”) in the 2-hole.
Finally, if losing out on the playoffs means that Fredi Gonzalez and Larry Parrish are both fired, it will be totally worth it, and I hope it happens.

Heyward really needs a reality check next year….he should have to tryout again for the team. If he can’t make the adjustments send him to the minors
oh yeah, we can't afford for him to have him in the lineup if he's going to have another year like this
i was just saying you shouldnt single out 1 player when our entire team is awful
You are clueless.

I'll focus on the bright side
At least Derek Lowe has likely started his last game as a Brave. To think he made $15mln this year and Cliff Lee only made $11mln.
I think bLowe should get the KK treatment next year. Look for any takers who are willing to pay a whole dollar of his salary next year (NYY, BOS anyone?) and if everyone is too smart for that give him a one way ticket to Mississippi
ok
hopefully the quitters are filtering out for the night now and someone important will see this. I propose a “Talking Chop Stretch Run Roster”, a TC membership policy for next year that mimics the MLB playoff rosters. New users must sign up by august 15th in order to comment in september and october. The last thing we need at the end of the season is to be trolled as hard as we have been.
Proud perpetrator of yelling "Money MIke" at Oracle Arena since Dunleavy's trade to the Pacers.
trolled?
dealing with a team that is doing THIS is not trolling.. it is a normal, human, fan reaction. they are sucking on a historical and epic scale.
this is exactly why i did not suggest we ban anyone who makes a negative comment
its the ppl who’ve ive seen seen before that showed up 5 days ago to start doing this whom i want to die

i guess you are right, some reactions are WAY over the top and harsh.. not sadness, but insanity, yea that should be banned..

One thing I notice from the Astros is that they are showing a type of energy I haven't seen this season
Brad Mills, our manager, actually seemed to care about winning last night’s game, and I was impressed with how he managed the game yesterday. I’ve criticized him in the past for not caring about winning games as he always lets a pitcher blow the lead before he goes to the bullpen. But last night he went to the bullpen before anything bad could have happened. I was very impressed with this, so I think he might do the same tonight, giving us a better chance of castrating the Cardinals.
Also, many of our rookies seem more focused today and yesterday. So I think we’ll win today’s game, cautiously optimistic.

Ok.. let me tell you how it ends
Braves lose today (shocker) and the Cards win… both teams tied for the wildcard… Braves win tomorrow (finally) behind Huddy… Cards win again… we go to a 1 game playoff on Thursday… braves take the lead 3-1 in top of the 8th, in bottom half of the inning Berkman hits a solo Hr to cut the lead 3-2… braves go in the order in top of the 9th, kimbrell gives up a leadoff walk, then a strikeout, then an 0-2 single, then pujols pops out (yeah pujols). then Holliday singles to tie the game… then the cards walk off with a Brian Mccann passed ball win 4-3….. True Story…

We get it
You love Fredi. I was with you for a while, but any manager who can’t pull their team together in a time like this and set them towards a common goal has no business managing a team this talented. Clearly he can’t do that, he just waits for them to get it together on their own, which is abundantly obvious from his post-game quotes.

I don’t hate him, so I love him? OK…
What do want his guys to do that’s any different when they went on that tear before the ASB? This isn’t Football. You don’t point your championship ring in the light at a bunch of kids and scream at them to give that extra ounce of effort…hoping they’ll run faster and hit harder.
Agreed
But, in a situation like he’s in, you certainly don’t sit back and expect your players to pull it together on their own. He has to say SOMETHING. This is a very young team that needs direction.

Look at my posts about Fredi from back in April. I was 100% behind him. Look at my posts when they hired him. I supported him 100%.
Then, I saw what he was doing in the games. At first, I was upset, but still gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Now, I am 100% against him as manager. He is clueless.

Here’s the problem:
Every manager has strong points, and every manager has weak points.
Every manager has one thing that they constantly do right, and every manager has something that they constantly do wrong.
Fredi constantly does everything wrong. He over manages in-game. He sets terrible lineups. He mishandles his starters. He abuses the bullpen, and constantly makes bad decisions on who to pitch in certain situations.
He constantly screws up pinch hitting. He constantly fails in his in-game calls, such as hit and runs, double-switches, etc.
When was the last time David Ross even got a PA?
How many times has he burned Brooks Conrad (a switch hitter) before he even sees 1 pitch?
How many times has Hudson been pissed that he was taken out of a game?
How many games does Fredi think Venters/Kimbrel can pitch?
Honestly, can you name one good quality about Fredi? I cannot.
