I agree
Cardinals are facing Schwinden and the Braves are up against Strasburg tomorrow. Nice time to have Chipper and Gonzo out of the lineup with Lowe on the mound opposing one of the best pitchers in baseball in the 2nd-half….

Yeah, off day tomorrow.

no offday for the Cards, but the Braves do get Thursday off and then it’s 5-6 inning of Strasburg (he is still on a pitch count, I would think even if Strasburg is going to get shutdown after Friday’s game…might be up to 80 pitches)

I think Hinske or McCann should take a big dump on the pitchers mound immediately following the game...
…regardless of the result.
If the Braves get into an early hole in the first couple of inning, think Chipper will be in there?
I’m not calling the guy out or anything, but this is a pretty big game. If he arrives before gametime, he should have enough time to get loose….
Does anybody have a link to the video of La Russa watching Omar's walk off?
Now that it’s a day removed from the event… I actually think it’s pretty hilarious.

I don't know why, but I feel good about D.Lowe tonight
He has to know he’s pitching for a spot IF we make the playoffs.
I just hope the offense can get some early runs across… or some late runs…basically any runs at any time
I hope Freddi's tuned in to reality
And has Julio stretching out in the pen by the bottom of the 1st, and ready to employ the quick hook.

He's being held back because of innings pitched, yes
But he’s available to pitch some and is the best option to give us 3 or 4 innings if Lowe proves to be ineffective again, especially with C-Mart having pitched last night.
I’m expecting Lowe to either have it together or to be a total failure tonight. I’m not feeling an “ok” start.

Question about Parrish?
I’m a Braves fan, but don’t claim to know individual coaches philosophies, but I find it hard to believe that he is telling the players to just wildly go swing at everything SO
Is it really what he’s teaching or just what the players are doing?
He preaches aggressiveness

Do we really know that for sure?
I’ve never read anything that suggests that that’s his philosophy. Then again, I’ve never gears anything to suggest otherwise. Maybe a lack of leadership and preparation is what we’re seeing.

Prado was saying last night he had been working with Chipper lately and Parrish was telling him that he needed to be more aggressive.
I believe there were interviews at the start of the year where he (Parrish) stated he was encouraging a more aggressive approach at the plate this year.
I could be wrong…
~ "Curve: The loveliest distance between two points." ~ Mae West ~
You're right about what he said at the beginning of the year
I don’t know anything about what he might have said to Prado, lately. Frankly, the Braves have too depressing for me lately to follow the news as closely as i did at the beginning of the year.
My buddy and I just decided that the braves would be set if we could get Matt Kemp, Jose Reyes, and Albert Pujols.
by willlinn on May 17, 2011 2:13 PM EDT

seems like he had been thinking way too much at the plate. Just simplify- see the ball, hit the ball.

But if he didn’t bother to take the time to learn what type of players he would be dealing with before he started then he’s an even bigger failure than I thought. I doubt that’s the case.

A combination of both
This is a relatively young team and they tend to listen to coaches, but it’s basically the same team that led the league in OBP last year. So Parrish has to take some of the blame for the approach that he’s preaching….

JV has a lot of movement on his fastball. It is almost certainly easier to hit 95 mph from Proctor with no movement.
Outside of a couple of pitches, I'm just not seeing a lot of movement.
I’ll take your word for it though, but this has been a problem with pretty much every pitcher they faced these past few weeks.

Damn.
I know this isn’t going to be a popular opinion, but what were you expecting from Lowe, a no hitter?
He has allowed 4 hits and 2 runs through 4.
That would be 6 hits and 3 runs through 6, a quality start, and enough to get a W or keep a team in the game if they were getting hits.
It’s just time to get some hits and give Lowe some support.

For my fellow football friends
I was asked to take over a team this year in a Dynasty League. The team name that I took over was “NY Giants” and quite fittingly, my QB was Eli Manning, my two WRs were Mario Manningham and Hackim Nicks and my RBs were Adrian Petersen, Jamal Charles, Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs.
Clearly, the previous owner was a die-hard Giants fan. The problem with that is that the Giants are a very inconsistent offensive team. They certainly are not the New Orleans Saints or Green Bay Packers.
So, I immediately realized that this team was in trouble, and I needed to essentially blow it up. I had no young talent outside of Nicks. So I made a post in the league about how everyone on my team was available, to include Petersen.
Well, when Charles got hurt, I immediately found the team with Thomas Jones and offered them Ahmad Bradshaw. The trade was accepted, then immediately vetoed by the league.
A bunch of posts were then made about how I’m “out of my league” and how it was a dumb trade, etc.
Then, I was locked out of trading all together.
So – do I stick this season out and try to finish, or do I bail on these douche bags and tank the team and not return next season?

I say, give them a chance. Contact whoever makes decisions, tell them why you think it’s a good trade, and ask to have trading restored. If they don’t listen, screw ’em.
by Ivan the Great on Sep 21, 2011 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions
I’ve done that. I told them my reason for the trade, which is: Thomas Jones is consistently one of the most underrated fantasy RBs, and now with Charles out, he is almost guaranteed another 10 TD season. Meanwhile, Bradshaw is splitting carries with Jacobs, almost to a 50/50 tune, and will most likely only have 6 TDs or so this season.
Clearly, this trade doesn’t help me in the future, but it does help me stay competitive this season – which is something I intended to be, even though I know my team has no chance.
I have 9 total NYG on my team. That’s terrible. Getting rid of Bradshaw (who I am not a fan of, personally) for a guy who I think has a chance at being one of the best RBs going forward this season is a move that I, as a manager should be allowed to make.
Personally, I don’t think any trade should ever be vetoed unless there is obvious collusion – which, since I only know 1 person in this league and money is not involved, there clearly wasn’t any collusion.

The Chiefs’ coach LOVES Thomas Jones. He would play Thomas Jones over Charles if Charles was healthy and it was justifiable. Hell, it’s what he did last season, even those Charles was clearly more talented.
There’s no way McCluster or anyone else takes any carries from Jones now.
Screw ’em.

I’m glad to see that someone else knows football.
It really irritated me when these guys started to condescend to me about how I didn’t know what I was doing, and that me wanting to trade Petersen for guys like AJ Green showed that I was clueless, etc…
I think I’m done with them.
I’m STILL locked out of trading, btw, and no explanation was given as to why.

Stanton would be so big and it seems like it would hurt really bad.
Where as with LoMo you could probably have a good time hanging out afterwards, may be a little awkward but nothing major. Although Stanton is probably going to make more money so with him you get financial security. I’ll go with Stanton.

The saddest part of today will probably be watching the Cardinals actually show us how to
1) score runs
2) score runs off a bullpen
3) come back in a game
4) recover from a bad starter outing
5) win a game down the stretch
Yea a 1 run deficit for the Cardinals is like us leading by 5.

Man.....tough tough
Cardinals score a million runs…..they come from behind constantly and they finish games. OH YEAH and their home games are a Full house and they are still behind in the wild card.
Braves score no runs…..come from behind a few times then blow it because they can’t finish games anymore. OH yeah their home games are half full and they have been in the lead of the wildcard forever. If we are up by 1 game by the time we get back to Atlanta I am going to say we continue to stay half full in the stadium. The fans that live in Atlanta are disgraceful.
Please stop being an idiot and check the attendance for the Phillies series at the end of the season last year.

Actually idiot....I live in philadelphia....check the phillies attendance all year....hell check the cardinals attendance....
They have day games on a thursday that sell out 45k….what would the braves get maybe 30k or 25k? The fact that the braves can sell out a few series a year is still disgraceful to the Braves fans in Atlanta, and 100% more since we are in a playoff race. Just plain pathetic.
We still control our own destiny.
We need to win out.

Phillies have lost 5 in a row.
Maybe they’ll keep up this slide until when we play them?

Don't worry, I am in no way looking past the nationals, but...
You know how much the Phillies would love to beat us. But imagine if they end the year on an 11 game losing streak, haha.

considering they have 6 with the cubs and astros
anything less than winning out and we’re watching the playoffs

Fuck it
If cards take it, they earned it. Imagine it, a team with the playoffs on the line, beating a shitty team with nothing to play for. How bizarre?
Sucks when the shoe is on the other foot, huh?

Kinda unfair to blame one game on missing the playoffs
When we have crapped up leads in multiple games lately.

Not really, I can't pin it on that.
That was karma getting us back for Proctor I guess.
We win one, we give one back.

the entire offense has generally sucked all season long. it’s been masked by their ability to hit the long ball. lots of bombs. but very little station to station, solid, fundamental baseball.
c est la vie. needed to go 2-1 vs fla and 2-1 vs was. now that ramps to sweeping the nats. not likely, but not impossible
