If Albert played in the AFL, they’d have to rename it the AZ/NM Fall League, based on where his homers landed.

People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

I actually don’t know if I fully agree. Infante dropped the bat head on the one he shot hard foul, but it might be good to save the offspeed stuff for later in the game. You can basically throw an off-speed pitch for a strike if they’ve never seen it from you before, and Delgado might need that at some later point to get out of a jam.

That’s just really, really not true.

Sanchez is a solid workhorse. He sometimes has bad outings, but on the whole he is pretty damn good. 3.29 FIP / 3.18 xFIP. He’s made leaps and bounds in both his strikeouts and walks this season. I would take Sanchez over many, many starters in the league. I would take Lowe over basically none.

You all missed the point

First, he was sucking. Lowe sucks. We need him to suck, we were scoring, lots of scoring equals winz! But no, you had to ruin it with disagreements and stats. You have jinxed it, I hope your happy. Its all of your faults if we dont score more and end up losing.

His ERA is good but his peripherals aren’t particularly good at the MLB level at the moment. They both are still developing, while I think Minor and Beachy are full-season starters at this point.

Maybe the Braves learned from the NFL...

and this has all been planned. Similar to the lockout, you seemingly take the playoffs away from us and we’re much more excited to see it if and when it happens. Stadium sellouts, lined pockets, much rejoicing.

by Timothy Burkhardt on Sep 20, 2011 7:55 PM EDT reply actions

At this point the team is going to have a big issue in the playoffs, provided they make it, because they won’t have a chance to rest regulars, align the rotation, give Hanson a try at facing big-league hitters, and so on.

I don’t think they would really forgo all those things for some additional excitement.

He can’t possibly do worse than his last start.

I am looking forward to the debate about whether Lowe should be a part of the playoff rotation after Lowe has 2 great starts to end the year.

I'm with you.

I don't care as much about the Giants

They are guaranteed to still be at least 3.5 back after tonight.

3.5 back with 7 games left for the first-place team is not good odds.

for arguments sake ...

what would be considered the bigger collapse if both boston and atlanta failed to make the playoffs?

The Red Sox were in the World Series before the season started

Gotta be Boston. If Atlanta chokes it will be decided against the Phillies (best record in baseball.) But if the Red Sox choke then they did it against the Orioles, and that is a whole different level of choke.

but ...

the question was regarding the “collapse” aspect – i guess that could be construed as one and the same but for whatever reasons i see them as 2 separate issues.

2nd & 3rd one out...

the exponent in the equation is a matter of preference and "fit" it can vary depending on what the user believes to yield the curve that best predicts a team’s ability to win games.
