Christian Bethancourt had a rough day, going 0-4 with 3 strikeouts and 2 errors. In his last 8 games, the 19 year old Panamanian catcher is 3-30 with 10 strikeouts. His overall numbers with Lynchburg aren't much better, a .223 average and a .494 OPS. Errors led to Dimasther Delgado allowing 3 unearned runs and not being able to make it out of the 5th inning. Still, he's been a much better pitcher since the All-Star break, with a 2.67 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP in 30.1 innings after the break compared to a 4.80 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP in 50.2 innings before the break. Mark Lamm, the Braves' 6th round pick this year, is playing at a higher level than any other 2011 Braves draftee, and the 23 year old sidearming righty is holding his own, with a 3.60 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP in 10 innings for Lynchburg.

Matt Lipka had a pair of singles, extending his hitting streak to 7 games. During the streak, he's gone 9-32 with a walk, which is a real indication of how his season has gone, because even during a moderate hitting streak, his numbers, a .281 average, a .303 OBP, and a .584 OPS, are still unimpressive. David Rohm hit his 5th homer of the year, and he's been on a roll, with a .425 average, a 1.089 OPS, 2 homers and 8 RBI in his last 10 games. Carlos Perez had a nice start, allowing 2 runs over 5 innings, and after putting up a 5.40 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP in 75 innings before the All-Star break, he's posted a 3.31 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP in 35.1 innings since the break. The Braves' first selection in the 2011 draft, lefty Sean Gilmartin, made his professional debut today, and it was a little rough, as he allowed 2 runs over 2 innings, though that's to be expected with the long layoff after his college season ended. Kenshin Kawakami also pitched, and did about what you'd expect him to do. In a day of poor pitching, Jean Carlos Gil was a real bright spot, tossing 4 shutout innings and striking out 7. For the year, the 20 year old Venezuelan righty has a 2.80 ERA, a 1.24 ERA, 2 BB/9, 10 K/9 and 5 K/BB in 45 innings. Hector Garcia collected a hit for the 4th straight game, going 5-13 in that span.
