Braves Quote For The Day ... Bourn Not To Be A National

The Atlanta Braves are excited about their new leadoff hitter and center fielder, Michael Bourn, but he couldn't have been playing against them this week, for the Washington Nationals. Here's how:

This past Saturday, the Nationals had a chance to acquire then-Astros center fielder Michael Bourn, but Houston wanted left-hander Ross Detwiler to be part of any deal the two clubs make and Washington declined, according to a baseball source.

A couple of things ... first of all, wow. The Astros were really determined to get criticized for their return in the Bourn trade no matter which team they made the trade with. Did they really not value Bourn as highly as so many others around baseball seemed to have valued him? Well, except for the Natinals. Was Washington really not willing to give up 25-year-old pitcher Ross Detwiler -- a middle reliever and failed starting pitcher -- for an impact center fielder? Luckily, the Braves had an unproven mid-20's middle reliever of their own to give Houston in Juan Abreu.

I continue to consider this trade a laugher.

One of these days...

Detwiler will justify getting picked in the 1st Round…one of these days…

Note the magic phrase "part of any deal"

I’m not going to laugh at the Nationals for this without knowing what the Astros were asking for in addition to Detwiler. Bourn for Detwiler straight up? Of course you make the deal, twice if you can. But even the mlb.com article doesn’t claim it was a 1-for-1.

have you seen waht they go with in these deals?

It wasn’t gonna be Harper, Strausberg, or Storen they were wanting along with Detwiler.

But we're 0-3

Since making the trade.

We lose.

I wouldn't give Detwiler up either

Is it funnier that Houston insisted on getting Detwiler, or that Washington refused to part with him?

would they still have beaten us in the first two games?

Because basing anything on 2 games in baseball is wise…

Your sarcams/joke detector is on the fritz.

In a 162 game season 2 games doesn’t mean much of anything, unless they do. I hope these last two won’t. Still it ticks me off to come in and drop two important games against the Nats.

I'm going to say

that if you swap Ankiel and Bourn in those games, Ankiel goes 0-9 for us, and Bourn steals 20 bases and hits 3 grand slams.

So yes.

haha, I'd bet on that.

Don't tell me Miami has no O. We've got Colombo and Fasano and Sparano!
