Chipper Jones: "I'm playing next year."
"I’m playing next year," he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday. "I still feel like I can go out there and play a good third base and be a threat, at least, at the plate. I’m having a good defensive year, and the [batting] average is on the rise."
So much for the grand off-season plans some of us had. What is the best course of action to upgrade the team in the off-season, now that we know what Chip is doing?

120+ games and his presence in the clubhouse. Worth every penny.
Keep it going, Chipper.

SS
that’s the most upgradable position. deeper bench never hurt.

Trading DLowe
is an upgrade to the position IMO. I think that will probably be where we upgrade, that and the bench and possibly the BP as Vizzy will go back to AAA.
I agree SS would be a great place to upgrade, but with Chipper returning, we can’t really afford most of the upgrades out there. I think AGonz is coming back, but who knows with Wren!

Lowe will be offloaded
even if we have to pay 13 million of his contract,
we simply can’t keep Teheran down,
and no one else should be traded.
Delgado and Minor should also be starting (and Medlen)
Lowe won’t be on the starting roster unless he’s the world series MVP
I love it!

3B has never been an upgrade spot
It’s Prado’s to inherit when Chipper does retire. SS is obviously the place to make a Lowe and/or JJ trade impact the roster for 2012.
indeed
however, when Chipper does decide to hang them up, that means that LF would be the upgrade spot. Conversely, because Chipper is playing next year, as awix noted, the only upgradeable position is now SS, but we know how that will probably go.

to consider
Pastornicky is rockin at short in the minors
so is Simmons—we have really great short stop prospects in the minors,
I think what we hope for is that Reyes opts to sign a one year because of his health issues,
we overpay him a bit to play just one year (with huge incentives)
we call up pastornicky to play when he is injured
and transition pastornicky into the league the following year.
correct
LF would be the spot to upgrade if he did retire… Also, I think some are forgetting that Chipper will make $13MM next year. That’s a lot to pay for a guy that will probably miss 40-50 games and hit .280/.350/.450
That being said, Chipper’s my favorite baseball player of all time and I’m thrilled that he’s coming back and we get to see him for one more year.
You'd think I was Travis Tritt struttin my FINE ASS on down to Florida
friggin' pumped.

That's so Favre-ish
and what’s the problem? Prado, Bourn, Heyward outfield. Chipper, ?, Uggla, Freeman, McCann infield. Ross, Hinske on the bench. Need a SS and good 4th OF so Prado can slide to 3B when needed, and you’re set. Give Salcedo another year to maybe get ready (doubtful). Use Lowe, Jurrjens to get the SS and create salary space.

Favre would have announced his retirement 4 years in a row, only to come back at the last minute to the highest bidder, and then announce his retirement mid season, only to finish out the season and announce his retirement again.

Best case scenerio,
Lowe plays his tail off in September, earning the trust and liking of some other team, aka the RedSox….lol
We trade Lowe along with blah blah blah….for Lowrie….and fully complete this roster
SP Huddy C – Mac
SP JJ BC – Ross
SP Hanson 1B – FF
SP Beachy 2B – Uggla
SP Minor SS – Lowrie
3B – Chipper
RP Varvaro/Marek/FA LF – Prado
RP Martinez CF – Bourn
RP Vizzy RF – J-Hey
RP Meds OF – Georgie
RP EOF Bench – Hinske
RP Venters Bench – Conrad
CL Kimbrel Bench – RH Super Utility Man
And let the World Series get ready for the Braves haha
In all reality, SS, Utility man, and another Bullpen option maybe a veteran, if Moylan is not retained.
Top to bottom, if we (as fans) only have to worry about three positions, that need to be filled, that is one damn good problem to have.

What would some of you guys say if it was some other guy other than Chipper putting up the exact same numbers as he’s currently putting up now.Would some of stand behind that guy like you all are doing for Chipper or would you be in favor of giving him the boot. Not to mention getting paid what Chipper is getting.
It’s not some other guy than Chipper. It’s Chipper. He can do what he wants.

One more thing
Have you actually looked at what Chipper has done this season?
.276 .350 .465 .815
That’s still damn good.

So ur saying if it was some other guy u would be in favor of looking to upgrade at 3B,but because it’s Chipper he can sit and do what he wants.Lowe isn’t the only one with a prohibitive contract, from what I get from the guy who made this post,he was looking forward to seeing what the Braves could do with Chipper’s money and some other guys coming off the books. Now Chipper’s contract is still on the books, the Braves won’t have that money to spend but will have to look to be once again creative with what they have.Sure they’ll find a way to get what they want with the money they will have not to mention what increases they will have to give those in arbt. yrs.
