Hale Shines Again While Rain Ruins Rome and Gwinnett in Atlanta Braves Minor League Action

Stay connected for news and updates

Rain spoiled a couple of games tonight on top of Mississippi already being off. The Danville offense continues to put up lots of runs behind William Beckwith and Brandon Drury with several other guys starting to turn it on as well. David Hale is also showing that he may actually be a starter after all.

Gwinnett Braves 1, Norfolk Tides 1 - Suspended

Rain pretty much covered the East Coast tonight so it shouldn't be surprising that this one got suspended. Being that the Braves leave town after this game they will attempt to make it up on 8/31.

Mike Minor will take the hill tomorrow and will likely be under scouts radar as the trade deadline approaches.

Mississippi Braves -  Off Day

Randall Delgado should take the hill tomorrow in what may be a showcase start for scouts.

Lynchburg Hillcats 4, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 1

  • Joey Terdoslavich, 1B 1-4, 2B, RBI, K, .269 Avg
  • Keenan Wiley, RF 2-4, 3B, RBI, K, .282 Avg
  • David Hale 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 2K, 3.75 ERA

In a complete reversal of fortunes from a year ago, David Hale has proven to be better out of the rotation than the bullpen this year. His ERA in five starts this season is 2.25 against a 5.64 mark as a reliever. While I am glad to see his success I feel it may not be sustainable. His walk rate and strikeout rate are both similar to last year when he had a 4.13 ERA and his groundball rate has regressed somewhat. His stuff is undeniable but I need to see a string of solid starts before I am a believer.

It is Dimaster Delgado's turn in the rotation but he pitched in relief tonight. Matt Crim could look to pick up the start.

Kannapolis Initimidators @ Rome Braves - Postponed

More rain around Atlanta. No make up date has been announced yet.

Carlos Perez will look to improve on his season tomorrow against Kannapolis.

Pulaski Mariners 3, Danville Braves 7

  • Nick Ahmed, SS 2-5, 2 2B, K, .271 Avg
  • Brandon Drury, 3B 2-4, 2 RBI, K, .352 Avg
  • William Beckwith, DH 1-4, 2B, .300 Avg
  • Edison Sanchez, 1B 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB, K, .255 Avg
  • Chase Larsson, 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, .242 Avg

Brandon Drury continues to rake for the D-Braves with a .390 average over his last 10 games. He is currently fourth in the Appy League with a.355 average and all while he is still just 18 years old. If he goes to Rome next season he will be the same age as Edward Salcedo when he was in Rome. Beckwith has fallen off a little in the batting average department but he has eleven hits in his last ten games and eight of them have been for extra bases. Nick Ahmed has also started to hit with a little authority with six extra base hits of his own in the last eight games.

GCL Yankees 7, GCL Braves 1

  • Logan Robbins, 2B 1-4, 2B, K, .259 Avg
  • Felix Marte, RF 1-3, 2B, BB, 2 K, .268 Avg
  • Troy Snitker, CF 2-4, 2B, RBI, K, .206 Avg

Braves pitchers gave up two homers to Isais Tejeda -  yet another teenage Dominican from the Yankee ranks. The offense didn't get much going either. Five of Logan Robbins last seven hits have been for extra bases, unfortunately nine of his 16 outs have been via strikeout. He is still putting up an OPS north of .850 though because he is flashing power (.222 ISO) and patience. Maybe we have a three true outcome guy here.
