Chipper Begins Rehab and Gattis Slugs Out 2 Homers For the Second Straight Game To Highlight Saturday's Atlanta Braves Minor League Action
Chipper Jones began his rehab with Rome, Evan Gattis hit 2 home runs for the second straight day, Chase Larsson also hit 2 home runs, and Julio Teheran's turn in the rotation was wasted by rain and umpire incompetence.
Gwinnett Braves 0, Norfolk Tides 0, suspended after 1 inning
In a game that never should have been started, Julio Teheran struck out 2 in a scoreless 1st inning before the game was suspended due to torrential downpour. The game will be resumed tomorrow as part of a double header, though Teheran's turn through the rotation was wasted because of the poor decision making by the umpires to start the game in the first place.

Rome wears helmets with the Atlanta 'A' on them?

"Welcome to the show, Brandon Beachy. I think you’re going to stay a while."
I’ve got other pictures with guys wearing ones with the Rome logo. Just goes to show how little it matters what’s on the helmet.

Teheran’s start being limited to 1 inning isn’t necessarily a bad thing. He’s at the point of they ear where his innings need to limited and watched closely.
Question…I know the Braves probably don’t consier him a prospect, but what’s the point of not promoting Gattis who is clearly too mature for Low A?
Gattis has a huge all-or-nothing swing, and that’s not likely to get it done at the higher levels. If they moved him up to Lynchburg, he’d face the same problem he had earlier this year, he’d never play because of Christian Bethancourt. If they jumped him up to AA, the huge holes in his swing would be exploited. It’s great that he’s playing so well, but he’s still the same player he’s been, a big, strong guy who takes huge swings and happens to run into a ball every now and then.

Because a low-BA catcher with good power could play if he can stick as a decent defender.

Larsson has very good power and it looks like he is starting to tap into it, but it also looks like he has a good batting eye. He has more BBs than Ks which is pretty impressive. Hopefully, Filak can continue to get better because he has had a rough year.
His batting eye was the first thing to catch my attention. I think he is going to be a good one. We really have some talent emerging in Danville. Many will need to be moved up shortly as they are just too talented for the league. Hopefully most play in the AFL. Including Larsson, who is already approaching 23 and needs to be treated aggressively when he proves capable of advancing.
Teams can only have 1 player who ended the year below AA play in the AFL, so unless they suddenly promote a bunch of them to AA for the last week of the season, which is unlikely, I’d guess none of this year’s draftees play in the AFL this year.

Thanks. I knew there was a limit, but didn’t think it was one. Yikes. I would have loved to see the organization be aggressive with Drury, At least we have quite a few nice players emerging at the lower levels. It’s nice to have a small logjam of hitting talent.
The Danville guys are on average older than normal for the Appy league though aren’t they? The truer test will be Rome and, for the more advanced college players (like Ahmed), probably Lynchburg.

They certainly are a bit old for rookie league ball. One reason I was hoping we would see them in a fall/winter league. It may simply be a case of not having enough room to advance them at present. Guys like Drury and Beckwith certainly seem ready for a step forward.
