Your one-page daily morning overview of Atlanta Braves news:
Postgame quotes following Braves win Friday against Reds | Atlanta Braves
Fredi Gonzalez, on using Uggla: "That’s the way we wanted to do it, really. Big knock. You go around there’s a lot of big hits, Prado to tie it after they go ahead. Uggla to right center field to win it. Good timing on his part. Bullpen did a terrific job. Linebrink, Venters, Kimbrel. A lot of good things happened with a lot of different guys….Maybe tomorrow we’ll get (Uggla) in there. We were planning on using him as a pinch hitter the whole time. We’ll evaluate tomorrow and hopefully get him a start."
Kimbrel sets club rookie mark with 31st save | braves.com: News
Craig Kimbrel set a Braves rookie record when he notched his 31st save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning in Friday's 6-4 win over the Reds. On Thursday, Kimbrel had matched Kerry Ligtenberg's 30 saves in 1998. "This has definitely exceeded my expectations, but I did come into this season wanting to be successful," Kimbrel said. "I knew there would be a lot of ups and a lot of downs -- more ups than downs so far."
The Associated Press: Misread count costs Reds in 6-4 loss to Braves
The Reds already had a 1-0 lead on rookie Zach Cozart's second career home run with one out in the first inning. Fred Lewis was on third base with one out and Miguel Cairo batting. The scoreboard showed a 2-2 count on Cairo, but Baker thought it was wrong. "I thought the first pitch was a ball," he said. "It was a situation where I didn't trust the scoreboard. I thought the count was 3-1. That was my fault." Baker flashed the suicide squeeze sign, but Cairo could only foul it off for a third strike. After Ryan Hanigan was intentionally walked, pitcher Bronson Arroyo struck out.
Martinez called up, Gearrin sent to Triple-A | braves.com: News
The Braves promoted right-handed reliever Cristhian Martinez from Triple-A Gwinnett and sent righty reliever Cory Gearrin back down on Friday. In five appearances with Atlanta this month, Gearrin has allowed 10 earned runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. Most recently, he gave up four earned on two hits and four walks in one inning against Colorado on Tuesday.
Uggla, Schafer out of lineup due to injuries | braves.com: News
Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez said both could be back in the lineup Saturday. Uggla -- who hit a tiebreaking two-run pinch-hit homer in the ninth inning of Friday's 6-4 win over the Reds -- suffered his injury running to first on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning Wednesday at Colorado, but stayed in for two more innings. He took some swings in the indoor batting cages before Friday's game and decided he was healthy enough to take batting practice on the field.
Chipper may be activated next weekend | braves.com: News
If all goes well, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez thinks third baseman Chipper Jones could be back next weekend when the team hosts the Marlins. Jones, who is eligible to return from the disabled list Sunday, will not make any rehab appearances this weekend. Instead, he will wait and work out with the Braves when the club returns to Atlanta on Monday.
Game still thrill for Roger McDowell | Cincinnati.com | cincinnati.com
He doesn't have a lot of family left to visit in Cincinnati, but Atlanta Braves pitching coach Roger McDowell still looks forward to returning to his hometown every summer. "I really never envisioned coaching, but after I got out of the game and retired as a player I started thinking about things to do with the rest of my life," said McDowell, who last pitched in the majors as a relief specialist in 1996."

Where is the newsclipping welcoming BJ Upton to Atlanta?

You know what they say, you can’t spell “up to no good” without Upton.
If we can land [Stephen Drew], I will give FW a bj.

My take on the Upton thing last night...
Rays had a deal in hand ready to pull the trigger. They called Jennings up and pulled Upton, with every intention on finishing the deal. Then someone balked. Either the Rays thought “Wait, maybe we should give it another day and make sure there is not a better deal,” or the other team said "on second thought, we can’t give “x” b-level player as a part of this." Either way, the Rays still felt like the trade was going to happen, and went ahead and sent another guy they were planning on demoting (possibly because of one of the players they expect to get in the trade) to open the roster slot for Jennings
Plausible?

Could be. Something odd definitely went down in Rays-land last night. I wonder: could it have been us, and the two parties decided at the last moment to postpone for 24 because of realizing that they couldn’t get Upton to Atlanta in time for an afternoon game? I guess we’ll know by the end of the weekend.

If you choose to only evaluate the obvious fuck-ups instead the entire body of work…you will always come to those conclusions.
