Uggla Lifts Braves to 6-4 Win as Kimbrel Notches Record
The Braves won a great baseball game at Great American Ballpark tonight. Atlanta took game one of the series by a score of 6-4 as Craig Kimbrel had no trouble notching a new franchise rookie record 31st save on the year. As is customary at the Reds’ home field, there were quite a few home runs to be had tonight, but the biggest of which by far belonged to Dan Uggla. It’s a great thing that none of us ever doubted this guy. Uggla came on to pinch hit with Alex Gonzalez on second and two outs in the top of the ninth. He proceeded to send one a mile high and into the right center field seats to break a 4-4 tie and ultimately give Kimbrel all the cushion that he needed.
The two teams arrived at the 4-4 score behind back-to-back homers on each side. A Cozart homer off of Jair Jurrjens in the first began the derby for both squads and resulted in a 1-0 lead for the Reds that lasted until the fourth. In the top of the inning, Heyward hit a huge homer that left the park and looked like it may have ended up in the Ohio River. McCann crushed a shot of his own on the following pitch to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.
Alex Gonzalez made it a 3-1 game in the top of the sixth by scoring McCann and nearly Hinske on a flair to left, but the Reds were not to be outdone. Fred Lewis and Drew Stubbs hit back-to-back homers of their own in the bottom half to give the home team a 4-3 lead. Stubbs had a chance to help his team a little more in the seventh, when he barely missed robbing a Prado fly ball that just made it over the center field wall to tie the game. Uggla’s pinch hit heroics extended his hitting streak to thirteen games in his only chance on the night.
Jurrjens wasn’t as sharp as he has been so far this season, but was able to limit the Reds to just four hits and struck out a season high nine batters. He did however, walk three, and allowed four to cross the plate in six innings of work. Tomorrow, Derek Lowe will go to the mound against Homer Bailey.

Also, how have you been? I had to leave ATL early back in May for work so of course I got your suggestions the day after I got home. We’ll probably be back down that way soon though so I’ll give that “challenge” a run.

Nats said to have been scouting the Rays this week.
However…. SIX teams were scouting Minor last night. All we know for sure is that the Mets were one of them.

Second, BJ Upton is (probably) about to be traded.
He was pulled early from his game tonight and Desmond Jennings was a late scratch in AAA for a non-injury situation. I’d bet anything he’s coming up, which makes Upton available.
I’d highly doubt a deal would go down at nearly midnight on a Friday night, but you never know. And I don’t think the Braves would take him, but he has been linked to the club in the past…

Because he’s a 26-year old center fielder who is a solid defender, steals 40+ bases a year and hits 15+ homers per year, and (despite striking out too much) walks at a high rate. Under control through 2012 as well.

Why would the Nats trade for him? That makes no sense. And what shortstop would got back to the Rays from the Phillies?
No way those clubs traded for him.
Can't trade a draft choice for a year after signing
Not from drafting, but from signing
Nobody they would trade
They are getting ready to be a good team. No reason they would give up prospects for Upton. They aren’t gonna win this year so that makes no sense.
If Brignac got sent down/traded then they would be getting a SS back in an Upton trade, right? Can’t be the Phillies then.
I think that logic sticks.
Nationals are confusing the hell out of me, there in no place to be buyers as there a long shot for the division and wild card, anyone here like to speculate on their logic?

Apparently the Red Sox are talking to the Royals about Jeff Francoeur
Man, that guy is going to play for a lot of teams. He still hasn’t been a free agent yet.
My buddy and I just decided that the braves would be set if we could get Matt Kemp, Jose Reyes, and Albert Pujols.

talks talks talks
lets see if it goes anywhere. Boston would be dumb to take him for anything more than a lucky orange peel. Francoeur can’t perform in large markets or anywhere where the media has high expectations for the team. NYM, ATL, fail. Texas and KC, relative success. Or maybe he just can’t play in this time zone

Actually, he just stinks
But he’s talented enough to be useful for short stretches.

It’s all the Braves fans’ fault…our expectations were just too high. We just weren’t content with over 2 years of sub .650 OPS as he was entering his player-controlled years.

Also picked up a game in the Wild Card tonight - lead is 6.0

Yes!
Lived in AZ when i signed on, but that was only for nine months. Had a southern mom, and lived in NC for many years, watching Braves on TBS. Live in Oregon now.

jammed finger=another win
stay on the bench till the def replacements are invited to participate.
Very exciting to wake up to this...
The trade rumors are getting ridiculous.. But still, Great win for a team that doesn’t NEED anything… I’m glad FW is taking his time and if the deadline comes and goes and we still have this team, I will be a happy camper.
Don’t worry about older women until you turn 22. It’s called the Saltalamacchia.

We were inches from Proctor coming into a tie game in the bottom of the 9th at Cincy… We do indeed have a need.
But if we can hold out till September call-ups we’ll be in good shape to fix that problem internally. Bat is still the need.
Sgt.: Pointed stick? Oh, oh, oh. We want to learn how to defend ourselves against pointed sticks, do we? Getting all high and mighty, eh? Fresh fruit not good enough for you eh? Well I'll tell you something my lad. When you're walking home tonight and some great homicidal maniac comes after you with a bunch of loganberries, don't come crying to me! Now, the passion fruit.
unfortunately, this, as we were about to use Proctor....
I was watching with some people, and they showed our bullpen while we were batting int the 9th, and I almost started to shed a tear when I saw Proctor throwing and Kimbrel peering through the wind screen to see what was going on.

Getting a B.J. is GREAT news, even if it is speculation. It’s really a good change of pace from all the chronic rosterbaters on here.

Well whether this is true or not you can find me still rosterbating for another week or two, just to see what I can get out of it, and then when it gets cold again start mindlessly rosterbating again all day and night. But I just can’t get it out of my mind know how a BJ would leave me smiling and satisfied through October at least!
That’s it I’m done, for now, when (if) B.J. is announced as a Brave, I’ll drop a whole nother load on ya.

They have to be making fun of Freeman, right?
Let's check #2 today please ;-)

I can appreciate a good pitcher's duel
but these are the type of baseball games I love. Just battling back & forth. There were enough hi-light clips in this one game to fill a whole show of Baseball Tonight. Back to back homers by both teams. Tying HR bouncing out of defenders glove @ the wall. Stellar defensive plays by Prado @ 3rd & (gasp) Brooks Conrad @ 2nd. Multiple hit game by Prado & (another gasp) AGon. And that at bat/HR by Uggs was just a classic battle. I loved Chip’s line after the HR, “Dan Uggla gets a hug & Dusty Baker needs one.” I just want to hug everybody right now.
