Braves to shut down Medlen for six weeks
Prior to this season I figured anything Atlanta got from Medlen was a complete bonus, and that the team (and fans) should in no way count on him to be fully recovered at any point during the year. TJ recovery is not an exact thing. Some make it back faster, others take time like ... cough ... Scott Proctor.

Will nothing
rid us of Proctor?
He’s like MRSA. He just keeps hanging around.
Carrying on Bobby's Legacy!
why do you care...!
you’re the one that let’s him pitch….
the exponent in the equation is a matter of preference and "fit" it can vary depending on what the user believes to yield the curve that best predicts a team’s ability to win games.

You know what’s funny. None of us ever talks to any of the players regularly, especially not like you would hope a manager does, and yet we all knew this was going to happen the moment his name hit the roster. How is it that we are better at this than a “professional manager” (FUFG?)
"You know when it comes to racism, people say: ' I don't care if they're black, white, purple, or green.' Uh, hold on now: purple or green?! You gotta draw the line somewhere! To hell with purple people! Unless they're suffocating, then help 'em."
The problem was that this year he had a sub 2 ERA at AAA
and did well in his first appearance
then again what Fredi did not take into consideration was that that appearance was against Houston.

Yea I remember that series. The one that meant that we would score 7 a game for the rest of the year right?

The series on May 16/17 I think...
I remember he did well to get out of a bases loaded jam…at that point I remember thinking he may have recovered after all…alas that was just him duping the organization into thinking he was serviceable.

My bad, I remember now. The guy just doesn’t deserve to be in this rather elite bullpen, though he is still a serviceable cautionary tale…

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Christina Kahrl wrote an article praising a Braves player. Clearly she wants to get fired from ESPN.
Wasn't at all counting on Meds contributing this year.
So, non-story for me. Hope he comes back better than ever next year, but there’s nothing wrong with our pen as is with the glaring exception of Proctor.
If we can land [Stephen Drew], I will give FW a bj.

Perhaps Proctor is just there to make everybody else look good by comparison?

I’ll be more than happy to take that job for $750k or whatever he’s making.

based on his performances to date I bet he can blow games better than you or anyone else can
The man can pitch in 2011 like Norton could hit in 2009.

Yea, the man is an artist and blown games is his paint.

It's a shame, but...
12 months is an optimistic timeframe for recovering from Tommy John. Coming back in August was never that realistic. (And I’ll admit, I let myself be sucked into the ballyhoo…)

And as far as a bullpen arm...
It seems to me we’ve got all the good arms we need at Gwinnett. It’s just a matter of clearing a roster spot for one of them…

ruining everything for everyone again :P

Did anyone really want a guy coming back from TJS and who hasn’t pitched in a year throwing for us down the stretch anyway? Especially with the possibility of a division title on the line.
If we can land [Stephen Drew], I will give FW a bj.

recall hudson...
and yes, yes I did. His long term health is more important, but if his recovery went perfect he would have been fine.

And I...
Did not.
Score one for the home team!!

It’s rough to sit through these games and not have someone that can’t hit a Ball?
Obviously, I do hope he’s back as soon as he’s ready…but I have been saying that it was incredibly optimistic to expect him back this season for some time now.

Bummer
Hopefully Moylan is still a lock to come back.
Get rid of Proctor, regardless. I have no other answers. lol

While we were all hoping to see Meds this year, we knew it was a longshot
Medlen visited Dr. James Andrews on Monday in his satellite office in Pensacola, Fla. Andrews told him the ligament was structurally sound but he needed rest.
Andrews performed "Tommy John" surgery on Medlen last Aug. 18. Recovery typically takes 12 months, but it can require up to 18 months.
"The elbow is sound," Wren said. "He just had some lingering soreness he couldn’t get out from the breaking up of the adhesions."
He’s so young, I’d rather him take all the time he needs now to heal properly than to rush anything that may cost him (and us) for years to come. Overall, not bad news.

Damn
Was really wishing to see Khris Medalan soon.
We'll trade you for Cheryl Tunt. Tome again? Still nothing?
Bummer for Meds
He’s really a team guy, and one hell of a competitor. I’m sure it’s driving him crazy not being to contribute this year.
Unfortunately, also, Marek had to go down earlier in the year. It seems he would have almost been gaurenteed to see some action, how is this guys luck so bad.
Hopefully, next year we will see both Marek and Meds on the mound making contributions. Best of luck in recovery to both of you guys.

that sucks for him…Having had elbow surgery myself, I always root for guys, especially young up and coming guys, that are recovering from that. I would be surprised to see him this year. In other news, I enjoyed my brief stint as a Braves fan during the ASG. I really like McCann and the young bullpen arms, so I didn’t even have to hold my nose.
"Have you seen this Perez guy pitch? I'm a pacifist, but I've never seen anything so violent look so beautiful."
tough luck for Medlens
I hope he suffers no other setback.
