Atlanta Braves All Star Moments: 2000, Chipper Homers at Home

The MLB All-Star Game has been full of memorable moments, and with the 82nd Mid-summer Classic upon us,Atlanta Braves fans remember some special moments for their team in All-Star Game history. We here at Talking Chop are proud to introduce the top-10 Braves All-Star Game moments.

July 11, 2000

The year 2000 was an up and down season for Atlanta. They were coming off their last to date world series appearance where they were swept by the New York Yankees. Chipper Jones was in the middle of his prime years and had just won his MVP award. John Rocker was being roasted in the press for his derogatory remarks that appeared in a January issue of Sports Illustrated. And on top of all of that the 2000 Major League All Star game was being held in Atlanta for the first time since 1972.

The Braves came into the break with a three game lead over the Mets. Along with Chipper, Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Andruw Jones and Andres Galarraga were named to the team (Galarraga started in place of Mark McGwire).

Chipper got off to a nice start with a single in the first inning off of starter David Wells. The AL scored in the top of the third inning when Kevin Brown walked Carl Everett with the bases loaded. In the bottom of the inning Chipper Jones came up to face James Baldwin of the Chicago White Sox. Chipper worked the count to 2-0 and Baldwin grooved a pitch that Chipper deposited deep into the left-center field stands.

In the top of the fifth inning Chipper collected another single that put men at first and second for Andruw Jones. Jones singled on a 1-0 pitch that drove Gary Sheffield home and cutting the AL lead to 3-2. Chipper would leave the game after this inning ending his day 3-3 with a long HR. Andruw and Galarraga both went 1-2 and Tom Glavine pitched a 1-2-3 inning.

The AL eventually won the game 6-3 with Derek Jeter collecting the MVP award with a 3-3, 2 RBI day but many will remember the game for the monster home run that Chipper Jones hit in his home park.

I was there..

The Braves were the only NL players who had good games. It was bizarre.
