A rough night again in Braves land as the reverse organizational sweep is brought down upon us. A lack of offense is the main culprit here as the five teams combined for a total of 11 runs. Not a fun night to say the least.
Buffalo Bisons 3, Gwinnett Braves 2
- Shawn Bowman 3B - 2-4, HR(7), 2 RBI, 2 K, .250 Avg
- Todd Redmond 8 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 2.93 ERA
The Braves were down 3-0 going into the bottom of the ninth inning and were in danger of suffering their third straight shutout. Shawn Bowman delivered a two out homer to make sure they at least got on the board in this one. All the runs in the game came via the homer as Todd Redmond allowed three solo homers to the Bisons.
Steven Shell will make his second start of the season tomorrow against the Bisons.
Mobile BayBears 11, Mississippi Braves 5
- Mycal Jones CF - 0-3, 2 BB, K, .298 Avg
- Tyler Pastornicky SS - 1-4, RBI, SB(11), .297 Avg
- Ernesto Mejia 1B - 1-4, 2B, BB, K, .263 Avg
- Paul Clemens 5.1 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 2.59 ERA
Paul Clemens had his worst start of the year and just the second where he has allowed more than two runs. I guess I can handle that. The Braves were still in this game late down just two runs going into the ninth inning but another bullpen meltdown allowed four runs to cross the plate and ensure another blowout. It has been rough going for the Mississippi bullpen recently. Eliecer Cardenas finally made an appearance where he didn't allow an earned run to score but he did intentionally walk the bases loaded and wild pitch a run in that was credited to Bill Bullock.
Arodys Vizcaino will look to make some adjustments in his second start in AA.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans 4, Lynchburg Hillcats 1
- Adam Milligan DH - 2-3, RBI, BB, .277 Avg
- Joey Terdoslavich 1B - 1-3, 2B, .270 Avg
In a running theme for Braves teams tonight the Hillcats just couldn't get any offense going even with some solid pitching. Milligan stayed hot and Terdoslavich pitched in a double but outside of that the Braves couldn't manage any other extra base hits. Willie Kempf was OK tonight giving up three runs across 5.2 innings which is way better than he has pitched the rest of the year (7.02 ERA).
Chris Masters will attempt to bounce back as he faces off against Barrett Loux, a first round draft pick by Arizona who went unsigned and then won his free agency and was signed by Texas.
Rome Braves 2, Charleston RiverDogs 15
- Edward Salcedo 3B - 1-3 2B, .274 Avg
- Robert Hefflinger RF - 1-3, HR(2), K, .266 Avg
- Kyle Rose CF - 2-3, K, .311 Avg
I'm not even going to get into this game. Kyle Rose came off the DL and collected two hits in his first game since May 1.
Carlos Perez will attempt to get his season back on track against the RiverDogs tomorrow night.
DSL Braves 1, DSL Tigers 6
- Luis Madrid 3B - 1-4, 2B, .353 Avg
- Mauricio Cabrera 3 IP, 4 H,4 R, 3 BB, 3 K, 7.71 ERA
- Oriel L Caicedo 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R(0 ER), 1 BB, 1 K, 0.00 ERA
Luis Madrid is just one hit away from equaling his season total from last year. He has also struck out just one time in 17 at-bats compared to ten times in 40 ABs last season. It is still early yet so I won't make any assumptions but the Braves hitting prospects are looking brighter and brighter lately.
