Tomahawk Chops: Daily Atlanta Braves Clippings For Thursday, June 2nd
Your one-page daily morning overview of Atlanta Braves news:
Braves salvage game against Padres but need more | Jeff Schultz
Maybe the analogy Fredi Gonzalez chose was a little dated, but the context still translates clearly in 2011. "You look at the back of the bubble-gum cards and you see the [career] numbers by these guys and you think, ‘It can still happen,’" the Braves’ manager said Wednesday night.
Skidding Uggla dropped to seventh in order | ajc.com
After deciding to "give him a breather" by not starting Uggla on Tuesday, Gonzalez joked Wednesday that Uggla was too much of a "pain" pacing in the dugout to set him two games in a row. "He’s your everyday second baseman," Gonzalez said. "He can’t break out of that [slump] sitting on the bench. There comes a point where you just give him a little mental rest and then run him back in there, let him play. He’s earned that."
Chipper back one day after tweaking left groin | braves.com: News
"I tried to talk him into it yesterday and this morning. He said, 'No, I feel good. I feel good.' You know what? Good for him," Gonzalez said. "I think we need more of that in our game sometimes. 'Hey, we're struggling, guys are hurt, I'm going to get in there and play.' I commend him for that."
Young rejoins Braves after stint in Triple-A | braves.com: News
Braves outfielder Matt Young says he's learned from the struggles that got him demoted to Triple-A Gwinnett after he started the season on the Opening Day roster. "I think I pressed big time, because it took so long to get here. It was one of those things where you don't want to let it slip through your fingers," said Young
Braves quotes after Wednesday win over Padres | Atlanta Braves
Martin Prado, on hitting in the indoor batting cage alone after Tuesday night’s game: "That’s the way I am. Sometimes you have bad days, and I felt yesterday that I didn’t get it done, and I couldn’t go home like that. I had to do something to fix my swing. And today was a new day. I felt better at home plate, and I got some results."
Two years to the week | Capitol Avenue Club
It was this week, two years ago that it all began – the craziest stretch in Frank Wren’s tenure at the top. 10 transactions were made in just a six day span which would change the state of the organization for years to come. It would be a waste of my time to cover all of them, especially the Gregor Blanco call-up, but here’s how we got to where we are today.

No, Jordan Schafer's catch to end yesterday's game may not have been the best outfield grab in the Majors last night.

The Braves knew rookie closer, Craig Kimbrel, would provide an immediate impact. Already the right-hander has established a new club record for most saves in the first half of a season, but on Wednesday he tied the National League record for most saves by a rookie before the All-Star break. Kimbrel's 16th save tied former Dodgers closer Yhency Brazoban, who saved 16 games before the break in 2005. Jonathan Papelbon holds the Major League record -- he converted 26 first-half saves in 2006.

This is a new feature I'm going to be doing on weekday mornings (maybe weekends). It's essentially designed to be one page that will bring you up to date on all the Braves news from the previous day, with links to the stories if you want to read more. Let me know what you think.

Play through injuries more??
Wow, thrilled to see a Fredi quote encouraging his players to hide injuries and try to play through them. As if that attitude hasn’t caused the braves enough problems in the last two years.
Really like this new feature though. Saves me from navigating to the four different websites I normally do every morning.

You must hate Fredi...
if you are obviously going to take what was written out of context. Fredi was trying to talk Chipper into taking a day off, to which chipper refused and wanted to gut it out.
I think that was aimed at Heyward, I read something yesterday that some “un-named” players were disappointed that Heyward won’t say when he’ll be back, only that he won’t start rehab until he’s 100%. Comparing Heyward’s injury, (no structural damage, just inflammation), with Chipper’s (small tear in meniscus) it seems some folks are wanting Heyward to suck it up and come back sooner.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea.
This will save a ton of “FanShots” from being posted too since some of us (points at self) tend to FS these type of things.
Did I say I love it? ;-)

Hahaha
Yhency Brazoban. I haven’t thought about him since, well, since he saved 15 games before the break in 2005.

I now twitter as @junkstats and blog about made-up stats and general baseball stuff at JunkStats.
My thoughts on that name, Who?
And shock that the date said 2005 and not 1985.

Must see catches
Just watched them back-to-back and although Adam Jones made a superb highlight play, I say Jordan Schafer made the better play because it was a full speed leap directly into the wall and saved the win. Also, Jones’ route made it look harder than it was.
This is one reason why TC is one of the best baseball blogs on the web. Always finding a new way to improve and stay ahead of the game…but still could be better without the lazy journalism
Gondeee took care of that problem....
Sold him to SBN for a bag of balls and some used sunflower seeds.

Does anyone else think that it is wied saying “Chipper back after hurting his left groin”. Does this mean that he has 2 groins? lol
Umm, everyone has two groins, as the groin is a muscle…

It’s rough to sit through these games and not have someone that can’t hit a Ball?
If this does not stay around.... "The Administration" will be disappointed.
Thanks Gondeee for another great piece for this wonderful site that demands so much of my life….
